Engine Noise Question

Yes I have done my research and THINK I understand what is normal and what is not but my constant forum searching is making things worse. Its like going on WebMD. You go in with a stomach cramp and come out a diabetic.

I think the best way to find my answer is to just let you hear it for yourselves. Is this noise normal? When I start the car it sounds fine but after about 10-15 seconds, it starts making the loud ticking noise. I know it says in the manual ticking is normal but how does one gauge how loud, loud is? Check it out.

P.S. Ignore the cricket noises. Thats not the engine. Those are actual crickets.:D

I don't hear any out of the ordinary noises. The fuel injection system is noisy. The fact that you can hear the crickets outside is a good sign to me; it isn't THAT loud.

It only appears after a couple seconds because during the warm up phase the engine is revving high enough to cover up the ticking sounds.

Sounds just like mine... Don't worry about it.

Sounds normal to me. And yours doesn't sound like it has cricket. Cricket is a lot louder and annoying.

normal

Well is not normal, i took mine back to toyota dealer and they told me the problem is the high presure fuel pump! They replaced mine yesterday under warranty. So far the noise is gone and the only noise i hear is the engine. So take yours back to the dealer and explain to them and show them where the noise is! And they should replace it.

Me and many other members have had our fuel pump replaced once or twice and the crickets still come back after a few hundred miles there is no solution to the noise and mines came back even worse! ps just leave it until your check engine light comes on then tell your dealership about the problems your having.

Agreed with all of the above, sounds normal. Too bad our cars sound like tractors.
