FR-S in chicago

I'm just looking to see who has FR-S orders in chicago so far, and what dealer they plan to go with.

I'm putting my order in on monday, and so far the dealership doesn't have anyone ahead of me.

I'm from the Chicagoland area, actually in the city right now, lol. I placed an order at Pauly Scion in Crystal Lake for a whiteout manual. Aside from the first 86 winner, I'm the first in line. The winters here are brutal, I hope to undercoat the bottom of the car to prevent damage.

Interesting you would go all the way to crystal lake.

under coating probably won't help a whole lot. At least that has been my experience with people who paid for it.

your best bet is to keep your maxims and leave the car in the garage

Ill be picking up one in wisconsin and i highly recommend a winter beater to save the 86 from the insane amount of salt WI and IL use on the highways....

If I put some protective covering I should be fine. If not, I'll just wipe it down with a towel or something.

IL winter + RWD car = random stuff in the trunk to weigh down the back of the car :bonk:

Toronto winter + RWD car = no special treatment needed, as we don't seem to get snow any more (Last winter was a bit of an exception, but other recent years have been virtually snow-free).

Just put the car on a lift from time to time and wash the underside with a pressure washer. Better than any under carriage wash at the car wash, and it keeps you from going through the automatic wash/scratch machine.

I don't think everyone has access to a lift with a pressure washer nearby. I don't think that would be as good as never driving it on the salty roads either.

I'm actually moving to Illinois (Urbana specifically) and so I decided against an FRS/BRZ. I'm not very experienced with snowy conditions (Texas has no winter) so I figured I should go AWD.

It is genuinely difficult to drive RWD in IL? My brother lived in Chicago for 7 years and he said RWD was an absolute no-no.

Considering RWD was pretty much one of the main options available until about 25-30 years ago, I think it's safe to say that RWD will be just fine if you're smart about it. There are plenty of trucks and SUVs driving around Chicago, most of which are not FWD/AWD. Don't feel as though you need to go out and buy an AWD vehicle just to drive in Chicago (I know people that have used this as an excuse to say "yeah... I need a WRX/Evo"), I'd hate for you to give up on the BRZ/FR-S just for fear of the winter - get you a fwd beater, that's what most people do up north.

Then again I'm from Mississippi, it's 80 something outside and am wearing shorts at the moment.... lol what do I know about winter...
