Stock Calipers Now Painted/Coated?
 

Hey guys,

I was looking at some new FR-S's on the lot today and noticed that they seem to have painted/coated brake calipers (aside from part of the rear). I'm pretty sure the older FR-S's calipers weren't painted/coated. Can someone confirm this?

Argh... that's funny because I was seriously debating it. "Hmm, should I take pics for the forum guys? Nah, I guess I won't..."

OK, I'll probably try to do it on my way home from work tomorrow. There was even a used one on the lot to compare (which had rust on it). There really does seem to be a difference.

yup they look painted and coated. just checked mine too ( i got my frs just 2 months ago). and they are like the first set of pictures you have up.

My fronts weren't rusted when I took them off, but they certainly were not coated like that.

Guessing this was a Scion thing as my BRZ has the painted surface when I picked it up last September. Guess they were cutting this step out and changed midcycle.

Mine are most definitely not coated, mine was an early build though (had it since early July 2012).

Mine came off the truck a month ago and I didn't notice that the calipers were painted. Wonder where the manufacturing dates vary between the fixed that were applied.

exactly how my calipers started to look after about 6 months (front and back) painted mine silver to prevent any further corrosion. seemed like the front had some coating to prevent or different material (aluminum or stainless).

Anyone know what coating they used? I wonder how durable it is till it would eventually start rusting.

I have FRS and mine are painted so no not a FRS thing...
