March 2013 Build Check Engine Light

I have a March 2013 build 86 that has 6000 kms on it. And i just got my first check engine light in traffic on a downhill slope. I let go of the clutch, just before it go to the engagement point, the car shakes and almost stalls and the check engine light goes on. The car still runs fine and there is no power loss.

My partner has a April 2012 build 86 and it has 18500kms. Her car very occasionally has the rpm dip when idling, other than that has had no check engine light so far. *knock on wood*

I plan to take it to the dealer to see what the problem could be but im also concerned that the dealer may void my warranty and not fix the problem because i have a intake and header on mine. Plus it is strange that a 2nd year model still has the check engine light that is common in the 1st years.

EDIT: The check engine light has gone. And there seems to be more power WTF

i would put back to stock and visit dealer

Maybe borrow an OBDII (or buy for 10-15) and see what codes it is throwing out before going to the dealer. If the code has nothing to do with headers or intake might be OK to take it to the dealer but they might give you trouble still.

Running lean? That could cause the extra power, but not for long...

What do you mean? How can it be running lean after the check engine light is gone?

This happened to me yesterday too. BRZ was idling somewhat rough and almost stalled once. A few minutes later I got a CEL + slip light. Slip light went off, but CEL stayed on. I was close to my dealer so I dropped by and had them look up the code. First time the OBDII said no code found, but the CEL was clearly still there. Restarted the car and it pulled p0011. The technician did not clear the code.

Went inside the service area to set up an appointment and when I started it up to leave, the CEL was gone. Took it out on the highway to make sure it felt fine and my butt dyno definitely says it had more power and ran smoother than it's ever run. Really weird.

Only mods I have are perrin catback, drop in filter, and inlet hose and they've all been installed for 5k+ miles. Manufacture date of 11/12, 6056XX VIN number.

Yeah its weird indeed... My guess is that the check engine light turning on and off is characteristic of it learning the driver's driving patterns and adjusts accordingly. Let me know if the CEL goes back on.

remember that if you have an aftermarket intake it could cause the MAF to read incorrectly and cause engine issues. what intake do you have?

It says in my signature. I have a Takeda AFE Dryflow intake. They are not known to cause any MAF issues.
