Help me strap down my tires
I thought I was all set for autox with my new trailer this weekend, but had a ratchet strap problem. I was loaded thusly:
http://www.3splooges.com/brz/14.jpg There are eye bolts on either side of the tires (you can kind of see one). I had a ratchet strap over the tires and tightened pretty well. After 10 miles I pulled in to a gas station and looked back to see the ratchet strap still hooked on one side and dragging. No idea how it could have possibly come off. I replaced it with a bungee cord through the center of the wheels which got me where I was going, but I wasn't happy with it. What's the best way to secure my wheels? I'm reluctant to add any weight aft of the axle to keep it balanced. |
Run the strap through the handles of the tire covers? Otherwise, seems like some type of ratchet strap/net that would pull around the tires would be the best (or two ratchet straps pulled down to either side of the tires with rope or something between them, pulled to make a netting). Might have to make it yourself though.

Almost everyone I've seen use these trailers either ratchet through the center of the rim or through the spokes.
Like this for example. http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/f..._0351Large.jpg Otherwise they mount some kind of pole onto the trailer (two of them) and the wheels lay flat and you don't need much to keep them strapped down. If you do a google image search for "autocross tire trailer" or track day tire trailer there are about 10000 images of how people have done it. :) |
I would highly recommend finding a way to use two straps. I know several people who have gone searching for lost wheels and hoosiers on the sides of highways.
Here's the setup on mine: http://cincypics.com/wp-content/uplo...iretrailer.jpg |

Looks like you have the same trailer, did you move the axle back a bit too? |
I had my tires lying down with PVC tubes sticking up through the center of them.
