Is the front lip bolted on or just taped on? Must've been a powerful storm... that really sucks

GH05T 06-20-2013 02:31 AM

Loving the look! You should vinyl wrap the middle white portion of your bumper black so the grille almost gives off the hourglass look similar to Lexus.

It was bolted on. I think I should of use tape and bolts together. Not sure if these were track tested, but we were going 105mph in a 40mph head wind between Reno and Las Vegas for the 86Expo. Too much downforce and shit starts to break apart.

I think what happened was the constant vibration from the road trip may have eaten away at the middle CF section and broke from there. One stress point, and everything usually falls apart. My bolts were still attached to the car, and some bolts got ripped off with some parts to my bumper.

I wish I kept the pieces now, I just didn't even want to see them, and have mangled CF parts in my trunk while I was on a road trip so I threw them in the dumpster. I kept the small PassWord JDM metal logo part though lol.

DId you contact PWJDM and tell them the story? Sounds like bad hardware and material

Real CF shouldnt just rip like that especially when bolted on makes me think twice before ordering this kit

GH05T 06-20-2013 10:57 AM

Yeah I agree if it gets destroyed at 100 MPH, then it doesn't sound like real CF.

Its pretty taxing on any kit driving 7 hours in that condition. Just by sheer coincidence, I met a dude that I sold my old HT-Auto front lip to in Vegas, and his front lip blew off during the drive as well. Same kind of issue, it only took one side to start getting weak, and one weak point had a domino effect, and the whole thing blew off in the desert. So it wasn't only me.

If we talk about F1 cars, they're going average about 200 mph for loose courses and 150 mph for really tight courses (w/ lots of turns) - but thing is F1 races only last about 1.5 hours. And all this is with F1-quality parts and fitment.

Driving at 100 MPH w/ 40 MPH headwind... it doesn't really add up straight and different aero produces different downforce, but lets say you're hitting around 140 mph 'downforce' for 7 hours. Combined with the fact that I'm sure the parts used on F1 cars are more robust + they check for structural integrity after every race maybe even during the pitstops - I don't think it's super surprising the lip got ripped off.

I hope PW:JDM reimburses you somehow - a new lip would be great but more likely is some sort of discount in the future.

Anyway, enough of my arm chair physics sitting my comfy chair at home... (actually at work in this case).

Perhaps password:jdm can chime in on this?

Man, that looks really good.

Wonder how it looks paint matched on a FRS?
