17x9 et45 245/40/17 rubs no more.
Update. I went coilovers then switched to lowering springs and for whatever reason it rubbed before, it doesn't rub anymore.
|
I know even with coilovers some folks have used a small spacer with the +45 RPF1s. Really depends on where the perches sit. Can you use a 3mm spacer and get enough clearance?
|
I'm on Dunlop Direzzas with the same setup with no problems with rubbing. Must be the tires... Even did a track day.
|
This is front wheels, right? Backs fine?
|
Yeah fronts, rears no problem....updated original post.

I know its a little too late now, but I bet a 17x8+45 would fit alright.
|
really even with coilovers? does anyone happen to know the overall diameter of a coilover spring perch?

so true but i wanted the flat spoke rpf1 which only comes in 17x9 and gold which i could only find in 45 offset otherwise 35et would've worked and it would poke out more.

This is the exact reason why I'm running 225/45's on 17x8's instead of 245/40's on 17x9's. I didn't want poke and couldn't justify coilovers this summer.
A 3mm spacer should get you the clearance you need and won't require longer studs. If you add some negative camber with either the whiteline upper mounts or adjustable upper mounts you won't poke as much either. Just don't use camber bolts, they'll just put the tire closer to the spring perch again. |
I'm on coils (KW) and I autoX 17x9 et45 RPF1s with 245/40/17 RS-3s with zero rubbing.
I did order 5MM spacers though because I want to go up to 255s and add more neg camber. |
The 3mm spacer would be the cheapest fix. A colleague also suggested taking a dremel and removing the slight lip on the lower perch that does not contact the spring.
I just hate to be in this same situation again in a couple weeks when I get lowering springs and add camber(without upper mounts) to the front. The car will be 90% street and 10% track so it is hard to justify the cost of a nice set of coilovers. Quote:

Just got off phone with Rudy at Tirerack, very knowledgeable guy, worked with him before on the miata forums. He recommends no less than 1/2" clearance for proper fitment. He suggested a 10mm spacer which will get me to 1/2" clearance. That's too much for my taste and I don't want to change out wheel studs. A 5mm spacer would get me 8mm of clearance, but I think I'm going to go with coilovers. Now I see why others have gone with the 35et with more poke

The et45s will fit fine with coils but won't be flush, they will sit inside the fender some due to the negative camber you'll gain on the drop. This is what I have.
Coils is a better way to go anyway, you'd put drop springs on stock struts and ware those out quickly then in a year when you get new struts you'd wish you'd just put that money into coils in the first place. Made that mistake on other cars before. |
I have no rubbing on my BRZ with 17x9 +45 and 245/40/17 RS3's.
