upgrading pads..advice please
Hey everyone, so I've done many many mods to the car and it's time for some brake to be upgraded. As of right now for the braking system, i have steel lines and rbf600 which made a big difference so far. What pads do you guys recommend for street use? looking for something with lower dust and is quiet. i'm not down with squeaky squeaky all day haha. I have a set of winmax w4s that I used at the track and goddamn those are noisy on the street.
overall, what pads are recommended that are good for spirited canyon driving and everyday daily use with low noise and low dust and easy on my rotors? any input would be appreciated. thanks! |
ive used stop techs on my old STi and they were great for dd/autox use, cheap too.

I have project mu ns400's and I like them, not very aggressive but still better than stock and low dust, pretty cheap too

Since you already have track pads, I've heard good things about the stop tech as street pads.

Idk if stop tech has any other pads, but they only have 1 street pad. I could be wrong though.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Ferodo DS2500 pads. great friction levels, almost perfectly linear from cold to hot. They're perfectly streetable but plenty durable enough for track use. Granted, they're not quite a race pad, but that isn't your goal.

Out of the brands we sell, Ferodo DS2500 and CL Brakes RC5+ would be your two best bets. That said, you will have more noise and dust than stock pads. However, you will also have a higher coefficient of friction/bite, far higher max operating temperature, more feel, more confidence, etc. It's all tradeoffs. There is no 'magic bullet' pad that can do everything for everybody.
You may enjoy this article I wrote on how to choose brake pads. It addresses these issues in depth. :happy0180: |
We sell a lot of Project Mu NS400 pads for street and autox use. I wouldn't recommend them for anything on track but parade laps.

Try the CL RC5+

After using the CL RC6 for a couple of months now, I think you should try the CL RC5+ for your street use requirements. The RC5+ should be lower noise than my RC6 pads. I don't think you are going to find a silent pad to meet your requirements. Here is my review (mostly track) of the CL RC6 pads: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...&postcount=105 |
all great pieces of advice. so difficult to find just a high performance quiet low dust set of pads. fmllllll.

If you are looking for something that doesn't dust a lot, the NS400 has been great for us and for customer for street and autox use. It's like a blend of Hawk HPS and HP+ pads. HPS dust levels, HP+ stopping power on the street and autox, but a lower heat tolerance than HP+. If you are ok with dust that's easy to clean off and non-corrosive that you can use on the track, look into Carbotechs. They have my favorite dust, though some people do not like the lack of initial bite on the track (for XP8 and XP10). |
