BRZ Engine Break In

Picked up my White Pearl BRZ on Wednesday!

I have put 950km on it so far, and have been keeping it under 4k for the most part. What is the proper break in procedure?

I noticed the manual doesn't say to change the oil until 10k KM as well...

What are you guys doing?

I plan on changing my oil once I get back from my roadtrip back to CA. So roughly 1200mi +/-. Then I plan on changing it every 3-4K. Once I get past 10K, I'll start using fully syenthetic.

Edit: Congrats :)

Thanks! I'm assuming they use full synthetic at the stealership? I'd change my oil myself but I don't want to give them any excuse for voiding the warranty.

Noticed the location of the filter and almost bust a nut.

Congrats!

As far as the oil change frequency, I think the first change time is up to personal preference. I changed my oil at 1300miles and will change it about every 5k miles.

Even with synthetic, I feel its better to be safe when changing oil.

I think I'm going to do mine at around 3-4k KM's just to be safe.

When did you guy's hit the redline for the first time? :party0030:

I am in Minnesota and follow the severe climate schedule. So I change my oil every 3700-4000 miles.

Congrats on the new car and welcome. But theres a ton of break-in threads already with tons of info and opinions- a simple google search will do wonders.

Regarding oil change, you can be lazy and follow the interval for change.

Or, you can have your oil tested periodically to see when you should change your oil. Oil changes should be done when the additives and the oil itself reaches a point where it's not protecting the engine as much.

Any more frequent changes is just a waste of money, to be honest.

This method is also much more environment friendly!:w00t:

I used this on my old S13, and ended up extending my oil change intervals up to 7500 miles.

One can do the math and figure out how much oil you would save over the normal 3-4 years of ownership.

Most people don't realize what oils do, and what the weights actually mean, and run heavier weight oils or change more often with no basis.

Plus, if you're afraid of warranty issues, you can just test regularly and have the test results as proof of a healthy running engine. Lawyers love that when they sue on your behalf!

Our cars come from the factory with synthetic oil. What are you trying to say when you state you'll "start using full synthetic"?

The dealership said I should have my first oil change done at 3000 miles. So I had them do that. However I plan on changing the oil myself from here on out. With full synthetic oil 2-3 changes a year is all that is needed for me (driving 12000-15000 miles a year with 1-2 HPDE's thrown in). And even that is still probably being overly cautious.
