I'm going to make the assumption that most people have a different opinion on what they think of as "rasp" or the catless smell.
Catless will have an odor but depending on how rich or lean the tune will determine how much. Turbo catless will always smell ( 11:1 is a lot of fuel) |

Why all racing cars change their factory headers to a high flow one? I dont think they would do it for sound, or a limited amount of power. Sorry, but to state that a header does not give you any power or very limited is just plain silly. Have a look at the bloody overpipe and how restricted it is. Changing that will give you some power...not 50hp, but damn, 2-3 maybe. All these modifications together will give you the right amount of power, add a tune and you're in the business. Well, not as much as forced induction but hell, enough to keep some people happy. |
Your making my point,....it will add power,.... my point is not enough R n D has been done yet to make it worth ones while yet....that's all.The racing teams have proven platforms that have been around for years, or have deep pockets to do the research,.....this is an economy sports car at heart, it aint going to happen overnight. Its only been around for a year . And whats been rushed to market isn't very impressive, if not worse than OEM.

I'll agree with your point with internal components though. We don't even know the limitation on this engine with boost. That is where the R&D will be necessary to find out highest gains. I think the injectors and the pump are something to also keep an eye on with turbo charging down the road. This is the reason why I'm going to wait on FI and see how these kits perform a year or two down the road for people who currently have them. |

I had header back exhaust from the beginning, then the tune. I noticed the tune but not the exhaust. The header made a big difference, especially by getting rid of the dip. It seems no matter where I drive, I will be around 3,500 rpm and I don't mind it anymore without the dip. It pulls strong right to 8,000. I will have to make a in car video to show you. I am on pump gas right now, and it still pulls strong. Simmons |

Entire Exhaust Considerations: 0. Weight Saving (little to none?) 1. UEL Vs EL 2. Cat Vs. Cat Delete, complicated because there are two cats here and you could delete one or either.... so really, 2. Full Cat Vs. Front Cat Vs. Rear Cat Vs. Cat Delete 3. Straight Vs Dual Exit Exhaust (not sure here) 4. Don't forget wide band sensor. (and placement) 5. Brand / Research 6. 2.5" Vs. 3" (NA Vs. FI) 6. FI or not. This is bigger than gets discussed I think, leading to the type of confusion going on here. I'm under the impression now that a new header isn't necessarily going to mean gains in torque or hp. What it can mean is: 6A. Keeping things properly cooled in a FI setup. 6B. Allowing proper through-put in an FI setup. 6C. Extending life of engine. 7. ECU Considerations; will you leave it alone or 7A. Piggy Back Vs. Replace Vs. Flash Which would mean choosing a header based on your goal; and having to consider a lot of variables. Sounds easy to end up with no gains or even a loss as mentioned. Is there other stuff going on here that I probably wouldn't know as a noob? |
