stretched stock frs tires on aftermarket wheels
Hi everybody,
I was wondering if anybody has come across any wheels with the stock tires. I'm looking into a new set of wheels and ill be keeping the original tires. I'm not positive if they will fit. If you own a set of wheels on stock tires or know of someone who does please post pictures and wheel specs! thanks in advance, Jarred |
This is a bad idea. First of all, the stock tires are pretty bad to begin with. Secondly, stretching them would likely degrade the performance of the tire further (at least in most ways). And thirdly, can you even remount tires like that?
Anyway, you are much better off getting better tires instead of wheels. Or at least wait until you can afford properly sized and better new tires for your wheels. But to technically answer your question, the widest wheel you can have the stock tires fit on is 17x8 inch. |
I got some 17x8 on my stock tires. They're stretched a bit. I think I have a pic in my journal. It drives fine but I'm going to get wider tires when these go.

Stretching tires isn't bad for any of its force or moment characteristics. You get a drop on mu so slightly worse acceleration and braking, but generally you also get a sizable increase in cp/w and cfMAX/w, so handling and response time is better. As long as the stretch is reasonable, you'll be fine. 17x8 or 8.5 is the max I would suggest, check JATMA or T&RA if youre curious.

Yeah I am doing it this week on 17x9. I like stretched tires.

There could be serious safety issues if you manage to fit them on anything larger. But if you don't care about safety and just want to make your car as ricey as possible, then be my guest. I just hope you don't end up driving anywhere near me. |
It can be an issue but a lot of people liked stretched tires. I have a buddy with 205s on a 10 and I used to have 225 on a 10 on my vw. It is possible and I have seen the bead pop off but 215 on a 9 shouldn't be too bad. Would I do this on the brz? No. Would I stretch the crappy factory tires? Hell no.

Oh God, this brought back memories of a select few idiots on this thread (http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25171)
Tires aren't made to stretch, why do you think they make different sizes? |
Who cares? It isn't your car. Everyone has their own tastes. I prefer the Japanese drift car look. If I want to stretch my tire I will. And a 215 on a 9 inch isn't a big stretch.

It is a high performance summer touring car tire. With only a 240 treadwear. That doesn't seem to be very econo to me. I am sure it will be fine.

I have seen threads with this done. You should be fine.

Then you go for it hot shot. Next thread topic: "I crashed my FRS because I stretched the stock tires to have a 'japanese drift car look' and my tires blew out under the stress." |
