Anybody run the risk of not using the front licence?
I'm debating it, but I was hoping to hear about experiences of some other members here on the board first. Anybody get in a lot of trouble? Or do you get by unnoticed?
Torontonian here. |

I was pulled over in the 2nd week of driving the car. Told the officer I was waiting for my offset mount and I had the plate on the front dash. He gave me a warning and sent me on my way. I think he just wanted to see my car and used the missing plate as an excuse.

You'll probably get hassled pretty quick. Maybe not by the first cop you pass, but when they're having a slow day.

I thought about it bu decided to pick up the license plate relocation kit before going to pick up the car.
In Vancouver there are too many choke points for road stops. I probably go through one a week. |
It is required in Texas at the moment but i don't have an issue with needing a front plate.
|
In Toronto, you will get pulled over easily for not having front plate.

I actually prefer the BRZ with a center-mounted front plate. Breaks up the front bumper nicely imo.

Got pulled over 3 days after getting the car in Toronto. Had the plate on the front of my windshield, was going to install it that day but a cop pulled me over saying I don't have a front plate. I pointed to it and he realized it was there, explained my story and showed him my bracket in the back seat but still proceeded to write me a $130 ticket for not having a front plate. bs
I plan on fighting this though. Went to the dealer right after as planned to validate that I put it on that day a mere hour after the ticket. Talked to several other cops on this issue as well who said it should be dropped in a resolution with the prosecutor but a hassle nonetheless even if it is dropped in the best case. My advice, if you know what mount you want, just get it done. I was driving very cautiously downtown when I was pulled over, just had one **** of a cop who thought it was better to flag me for that rather than investigate actual crime. |
One of my older cars, in a different state, I got some suction cups and suction cupped it into the windshield by the passenger seat. It probably looked pretty ricey but I never got hassled for it.
Edit: Derp, disregard this. I got here via New Posts, didn't look at the section. |
I can't believe that the thing that finally makes me want to rebel against the government is a front license plate, but it absolutely ruins the front end of these cars. I even thought I might get away without one because we have a lot of cars from Nova Scotia (where it's not required) cross into eastern New Brunswick, so it wouldn't look completely foreign. In the end, I put it on, but I Google imaged before mounting it to get some ideas. I don't like it offset, I think it looks better centered, and I like it better lower than higher. Instead of the drill-on mount that came with the car, I used zip-ties to attach the plate to the front grill.
I still hate it. Best of terrible options. |
For sure fight it, you'll probably just get a court date in 5 months or something and the cop won't even show up. $130 for having the bracket ready to go and you just got the car not too long ago, that's just stupid.

I had my plate in my Window for months before I got a bracket. No problems. And I ran without a plate on my jetta for a year with no problems.

I drove around for a couple days without a front plate and didn't get looked at once, but I've had it mounted since then. I bolted the stock bracket through the grill so I didn't have to drill the bumper. The plate sits a couple inches lower than designed, but everything works great.
All you need is two long bolts, two really big washers two nuts and some patience. |
