Automatic Transmission
Are there any videos/information on the auto? Id like to see how the shifter works. Id also like to know how the shift times compare to dual-clutch transmissions.
All we know is it has a locked torque converter based on the ISF Transmission... Anyone? :mad0259: |
Have you seen some of the videos of the BRZ/86 on the track? Several of them have autos.
I think there are paddle shifters, and the drivers keep talking about how good it feels or something like that. When you see the driver pulling the paddle you hear the gears change, so it's definitely a very fast shift. |

i sell cars for a living/soon to be in the military, ive driven every type of car out there auto and manual, most cars in the 25k range with a auto mostly suck, toyota and subaru have revised this and made sure the auto didnt take away from the driving pleasure, shift programming from the ISF placed in a IS250 tranny that's redesigned for the 86 is what you are getting, no additional parasitic loss due to the locking torque converter over the manual, in theory the auto and manual should see identical dyno numbers, if you go the auto route you can get a higher stall locking torque converter for better launches :D this car has been in 7 years of development, i wouldnt worry which transmission you get, just do what suits you best and remember a test drive will sort out any questions you have :D |
^ Very informative post! Great summary.

press F3 and type in "trans" should bring you to where speed hunters are talking to tada about how good the transmission is, There is a sport mode that makes the car shift faster/harder |

If it's working the way its supposed to all you should have to do is floor the gas pedal. Automatic transmissions sense engine vacuum and sometimes manifold pressure vs. vehicle speed to "automatically" shift into what's called a "forced downshift" If your not getting good passing speed or incline power you may need a transmission adjustment a "kick-down" adjustment. 10 year mechanic.

Does anyone know where I can get a higher Stall Torque converter. Running a turbo on the auto and she spools at 2k with the brake pressed and sits there! Let off and its a rocket. I would like a little tire spin...

Bring an old thread back. I have since put in a Performance High Stall Converter and Valve Body from South Side Performance. 2 words describe the experience and change...."Holy Shit"! You better hold on! With the new stall being almost 3100 compared to 2450 my car hits full boost at launch. Not to mention hitting 40mph+ in 1st and going into second barking tires and slamming you back. The rest of the gears are super crisp but not as aggressive as 1st. The Valve Body I am using will be there stage 1 and I got the first proto type to test and they nailed it! The stage 2 should be here soon and the testing of it will begin. Thanks to whoever pointed me into the South Side Performance direction. They are the only ones who make the High Stall Torque Converter and VB for our cars at the moment. Their experience with high performance transmissions is top notch! Thanks @sspkris
