Question regarding emissions.

So are we exempt from emissions testing because the car "meets strict california standards," and the cars are manufactured after the year 2009? If this is the case, this will be the first car that I can mod without worry. Tis true in the Seattle area?

This information is from the WA dol site. If anyone can let me know if we're clear that'd be great. :)

I've never looked into it, but I don't imagine you are emissions exempt unless you live in the few areas in the state that fall into that exempt category.

Enumclaw is one of them, so no emissions testing for me!

This stuff varies widely by state, but I'm pretty sure they'll at least look for a check engine light and fail you if it's on.

emissions requirement zip codes in WA: http://www.emissiontestwa.com/ZipCodes/Zip_codes07.pdf

if you want to dodge emissions, register your vehicle at any zip code other than the ones you see listed in the above PDF.

(2) The following motor vehicles are exempt from emission test requirements:

(a) Motor vehicles that are less than five years old or more than twenty-five years old;

(b) Motor vehicles that are a 2009 model year or newer;

So I'm still confused. I know Bellingham is exempt, but considering the fact that I live in Seattle, am I? I mean... My car is 09 and newer lol.

Dude... did you even read through your link before posting it? :bonk:

All new passenger cars, SUVs, vans, and pickup trucks with a model year of 2009 or newer must be certified to California emission standards. New vehicles that don’t meet California emission standards cannot be registered, leased, rented, licensed, or sold for use in Washington.

Frequently asked questions
Do vehicles certified to California emission standards have to be emission tested?

No. The Washington State Legislature exempted 2009 and newer vehicles that are California certified from emission testing.
