installing harness
looking to install a 4pt harness for my brz for my stock seats if possible. can someone point me in the right direction to the parts i would need? and would installing a harness bar make the backseats completely useless?

You'll need either a harness that attaches to the rear seat anchors or a harness bar or a roll cage. In any of these cases, using the harness on a street driven car will be a terrible idea. If you use the harness on a track, go for it. Just be aware that with any of the options provided you have essentially lost the use of the (useless) rear seats.

Personally wouldn't do them on the stock seats. There aren't proper harness slots to keep the shoulder harness belts in properly. You'll also need a properly spaced harness bar or roll cage with harness bar attachment. Using the stock rear seat belt mounts put the belts at an improper angle.
Although I will admit harnesses do make for a cool looking part safety should be your utmost concern if your going to use it in the steer it track at high speed. For car shows, go right ahead. Schroth Harness Installation Guide |

I would generally not recommend running 4-points on the street. The way I understand it is that the factory 3-point belt will allow your upper body to bend over in the event of a roll over, where a 4-point will not allow that as easily. So with a harness, I would normally recommend a cage along with it to prevent the cabin from crushing during a roll over event. Now with any accident/safety discussion there is always a "well, what if this or that were to happen", and we could argue hypotheticals all day long, but for me personally, I will keep the factory 3 point for daily driving :)

OEM 3 point on the street or track
Aftermarket 5 point or 6 point with a roll cage on the track Those are the only two ways I roll. If these are just for show, then add a harness bar and wrap the upper belts around it. |

For harnesses to be DOT legal they need to have the ASM system. Which is a extra fold of harness length that is sewn into on of the straps. So in the event of a crash the thread splits and allows your body the extra movement it need so your body doesn't submarin, which could lead to more serious injuries. A cage wouldn't be a safe bet for a street driven car unless you wear a helmet every time you got in to drive. Imagine you get T-boned while in your caged car with not wearing a helmet. Now you have all these metal bars to split your melon on. I installed the Scrothe Rallye 3 harness in my frs, I barely use it, only when I go out for spirited driving or track days. But it's always there. And if you need to have rear passengers, it unbuckles easy and stores under the seat. Or cars have too short a rear seat section, so unless you have a cage or a harness bar(even more dangerous to have in a crash) then you need a 3 point that bolts to the upper rear pillar.
