RE71R and the Rivals are the two new hot tires, designed to compete and win SCCA Autocross competitions, there's some skepticism that they're actually 200 treadwear rating and will hold up to prolonged street use because they are very aggressive sticky compounds.

I suppose Dunlop Direzza ZII and Hankook RS3 may also fall into that category as they are still doing well, they're on the edge of what could be considered a street tire although the Direzza's have a decent rep for durability, I've heard they're commonly chosen for some endurance racing and spec Miata.

I'd recommend you stick to an all-season tire of your choice.

This is not my area of expertise, as I don't normally try to drive fast through large amounts of standing water.

Rivals and Rival-S refer to two *different* tires.

595RSRR; the other tires are not readily available in the states, which preclude them from any sort of competition, as well as the general pubilc.

If I'm using these strictly for the track is there any benefit to going with a 40 series instead of 45?

My transmission is automagic so I have taller gearing and have not decided if/when I'll change the final drive. (I know it's pretty track specific when you get good, but I'm not that good yet. ;) )

I'm just thinking of sidewall stiffness vs roll and if there is any benefit to going shorter since I won't be on the street with these.

I have ran my Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3's in just about every wet condition (on @CSG Mike scale) damp -> lakes and they have performed flawlessly. They have similar dry grip to a PSS but much better wet traction. They are new tire tech.

Mine are 245/40ZR17 on 17x9. Skinnier tires may perform even better in the wet.

For 225? Shorter gearing

There's a track day tomorrow. It's going to be 115 degrees. I don't have any cooling mods. Should I sign up or skip this one?

What mods? What skill level? Doesn't NASA AZ run their events at night?

It's an SCCA event, starting at ~ 4pm. I did one last month and it was super. My question was more geared towards the oil cooling issues with the FRS vs. the super high track temps. Last month it was around 80 degrees.

If you're pretty new you'll be ok. If you're experienced, you should get an oil cooler...

Ha! Don't think it'd get here in time for the event tomorrow. I'll wait til it cools off a bit :)
