My First Subaru (Black BRZ)

Here is my Subaru BRZ as currently setup today:

I've started fairly early on the modding for this car, only 1500 miles on the odometer.

Here was my car as I first got it:

And without the wet weather:

My BRZ Limited came from the dealership with 18x8.5" enkei raijin front and 18x9.5" Enkei Raijin rear wheels wrapped in Kumho Ecsta LE Sport rubber. Here is the stance of the wheels before doing any suspension upgrades:

I quickly upgraded to RCE Yellow springs on the factory struts:

I did the install myself, it only took about two hours to do the front and rear with one person helping. I also purchased the com-c top mounts, but have yet to install them. I will most likely get it done next weekend when my SPC rear control arms are in.

Here is the car after the install. I also installed crash bolts and had it aligned. My rear camber is slightly off, but will soon be fixed by the new control arms. These pictures are only a few days after the initial install.

I recently purchased and installed a Beatsonic Sharkfin. I think it is a very attractive upgrade over the stock RC car antenna.

Future plans involve installing my Whiteline Com-C Top Mounts:

I've also purchased, but have yet to install the Whiteline Positive Traction and Positive Shift bushing kits. I will possibly get those installed this weekend as well. My original plans were to use the KCA326 adjustable camber bushings, but nobody in my area was willing to install them for a reasonable price, if they would even attempt the install. I am going to use the SPC 67660 rear lower control arms for my rear camber adjustments. These seem like the best option after the KCA326 bushings. Here is a link to the control arms: http://www.spcperformance.com/index....tion&pid=67660

I also forgot to add that I've added a K&N drop in filter. Hasn't made much of a difference, although there may be some at the upper end. The sound is better however, so I'll take it.

Will update journal once done with the next upgrades!

Damn those Raijins look great in staggered fitment on your car.

Just installed my new SPC rear control arms. I purchased the new style 67660 SPC arms. They just seemed more solid, and I think its a better design for the BRZ. Getting it aligned tomorrow, gonna go with -1.5 deg in the rear. So far, they seem stiffer than stock, but I haven't tested it at all. Very easy install with me and a buddy.

Love the 9.5" rears! Nice mods! Very similar to what I'm running!

Got the car aligned today. -1.0 deg camber in the front and -1.2 deg camber in the rear. Toe set in .09 in the rear and set to 0 in the front. Got a nail in one tire, so I am waiting on a replacement (nail was too close to the sidewall to feel good about patching). Seems to be handling much better than it ever has after the alignment.

Finally installed the whiteline com-c top hats. Having a slight pop up front on the first turn of the day or so. I also discovered a rub from the large wheels in the rear. It only happens on high G turns, but it appears to rub against the bracket guarding the brake line. May have to dial out some toe or slightly reshape the guard. Not sure if anyone has had any issues with this.

Here's the freshly detailed engine bay:

Here is a picture of the whiteline top hats installed:

I also took picture of the additional front camber I can run. Final alignment specs were -1.3 up front, with 0 toe and +6 caster, and -1.2 rear with slight toe in.

I'm honestly shocked that anyone at the dealership would have good enough taste to pick out those wheels and in the proper size/offset; good stuff!!

dxero 08-12-2013 09:51 PM

Looks great! Exactly the rims I was planning to get. What's the off set for wheels? Also did you know if they adjusted the camber when you first got the car?

console_cowboy 08-12-2013 11:40 PM

The offset on these wheels is +45, although I would probably get a slightly different offset in the rear. +45 with 18x9.5" wide wheels requires a little bit more work in terms of fitting against the ebrake line shields in the rear. The dealership did not adjust camber before I got it, I did that with the whiteline com-c top hats, crash bolts, and rear control arms. Getting a performance alignment should be anyone's first step with this car.

Hey man, love the build! But I'm curious are those 235/40/18s front and 255/35/18s in the rear? Also did they rub at the stock ride height? Sorry that I'm full of questions, but I want to buy the same set of rims and I'm trying to decide which tire size would work best on stock suspension.
