But here's a short list of cars that received big improvements in their 2nd model year life with Subaru since you're so informed. 1998 2.5Rs, upgraded in 99 with a better engine and front bumper/fascia. 2002 WRX, upgraded in 2003 with a better, stronger gearbox (that was still too weak) 2004 WRX STi, upgraded in 2005 with better 5x114 hubs. The list goes on for various other models of Subaru. Not only that but the weight of historical data for not buying a first MY car from any manufacturer is immense. Furthermore, I'm a college student living on my own, not a high earning career man. So in order to afford the BRZ I want (limited) I had to save up 12K to put down. I have the 12K saved, that's hardly posing; that's playing it smart. |
Taking delivery of mine on my 46th bday
1st new car. |
Im 46 in Monkey years.
Ive had more cars than I can count on my hands and toes twice over. Some great, some crap. I like cars but its not always been a priority in my life. Last decade and a half I went Nissan and Honda "family friendly" sedans into Mercedes but still not much fun. Got back into coups, Benz is nice - got to have a great mechanic though, loved the Acura but am annoyed that that don't sell a coupe anymore. NOT many coups to choose from these days and fewer RWD's. My intention is to invest in this car and make it what I want. It's been more years than most of you are old since I built a street rod. I had intentions on doing just that to the RSX I bought but I got divorced instead, not that there was anything wrong with that! The best thing about marriage is divorce! Remember that - I digress... The RSX was begging for a bold-on compact supercharger, nothing excessive but soon realized that the Automatic was a mistake! I was going to buy my mechanics sons car, an 04 Type-S that he made into a street rod properly! 18's , 2in lowered, tuned, 6MT 230HP, Carbon fiber nose, gages/monitoring. But I decided on an FR car. I need to drive this car, as is for a few months. Decide if I "trust" it. Also need to decide just what this "old kid" wants from his GT car. Im not a young gear-head into drifting and track racing/driving. I may join a club and hit a few tracks once or twice a year but that's not what this car is going to do. This car will see mostly highways, busy tri-state area (NYC) up to rural NY/Pennsylvania and over to east-end beaches (Hampton's/Montauk). Handling and comfort are first. Sexy is second but low-key!! No Red, White or Salmon colored cars for me! Power and Speed that are behaved. I may budget $10k which is not a lot considering im gonna hire a motor head to do the work. I can if I want but seriously don't have the time, to many other hobbies and tasks in my life. The handling is good already. Breaks are ample too for the street. Thinking some tower braces, MC brace. No interested in changing the cars profile, not lowering it or stiffening up the suspension. Maybe adjustable performance struts down the road and lighter/better replacement parts/bushings but not to much so. My prostate isn't as young as it use to be! Its sexy enough, want to remove most reference to Scion! Fuck Scion, they had nothing to do with this car. Im adding a few luxuries it should have had; Auto-stop directionals, Fog lights, more leather-ette trim by knees and on door, maybe some carbon fiber to replace the plastic interior trim and a seat heater added. Tinted windows, maybe. Better rear-view mirror. Power and performance is the most expensive consideration. Id like to add a small bolt-on supercharger and exhaust. Seems reaching an honest 280HP is easy enough without upgrading the rest of the drive-train. Im NOT street racing or track racing, just gonna get on it when I want and bring the car up to where it belongs. Can't exceed $40k much, to many alternatives from Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Lexus and others to consider. I think a near 300HP FR-S for $35k is very hard to beat. That HP will make the car faster than most especially from 40 to 100 mph. And still be a tame everyday driver that gets near 30mpg. This car is gonna be a legend. |

Question: What generation do you consider yourself?
I'm in my late 20s and think I'm in Gen-Y. I heard about the "Entitled" generation. Not sure if I'm part of that or not. I think my generation was the transition generation that led into the Entitleds so some Gen-Y-ers are and some aren't. What do you think? It's also possible my question could all just be BS. |
