Borg Warner S255-RS .48

Theoretical Bro-Science in coming.....

I currently have this turbo brand new sitting on my desk. So this is why i chose this turbo for the discussion...

This turbo is rated just shy of 500whp at 30psi on the SRT-4's with full spool at 3400... Keep in mind they have a 2.4L.

We have a 2.0L and 1500 more RPM band than that car (just sold my srt after buying the BRZ).

Now, i'm no turbo expert but what i do know is that I plan to reach that 500ish WHP mark sometime in the next few years
(built block blah blah blah).

So with this turbo set up i'm looking at high lag (say 4080rpm full spool [Bro science guess])

That means a few things for me;

1: lots of head room for future mods and such.
2: lag which would help with low end traction... (kinda)
3: more mildly mannered for DD out of boost.

What do you guys think?

I think that a turbo that comes on spool that late would blow...no pun intended.

you will find that you can probably spool it faster with the variable cams and the more efficient head design of the FA20 though.

You can do alot with a good tuner and proper engine management though. I have another project car with a GT2868 (no not the GTX 67) that spools very well and still nets me 450 whp. we use boost by gear to keep 1st and second useable,

Really depends on what you want to do. Although it will probably take a while to hit full boost, it will probably be making more power in the entire rpm band than most of the "small" turbos people are using around here from the CFM flowing out of that thing. It will just make ALOT more power up top. Sounds pretty cool, do it!

Just curious, would you happen to have an idea if the spool would be THAT affected? Going from 3400 RPM to 4800 RPM just by going from 2.4L to 2.0L?

displacement does have a effect on spool if I'm correct !

edit: sorry i misread, well he stated thats its "bro science" which i assume meant a rough estimate

in the jze world , thats where the 1jze lacked on a huge turbo build, but with the new turbos now spooling isn't that much of an issue *wink wink* gtx :party0030:

4080. Not 4800

Did you hear about the dyslexic insomniac agnostic?
He lies awake at night wondering if there is a dog.

A few factors, displacement is important though. Stroke is another, cam timing, compression! etc

But the SRT4 can't move around it's camshafts... the BRZ can, and that can be used to improve spool.

Do it, im running a Borg warner erf 7064 with no big lag issues. Go drive your car hard and see where your rpms are landing. Im pretty sure not going to land at 3800 rpms. Plus the sound and how smooth these turbos are is out of this world. When on woot your power band is in the higher rpms.

FAER 07-04-2013 02:28 PM

That's exactly where I want that turbo power in the 4.5k and beyond....

No boost for daily driving but enough to nail your ass to the seat when u press the pedal...

Btw I'll be ripping off your inter cooler design in the future, it's the best I've seen.
