Five Axis Spoiler Paint Issues? Common?
Well, ive been trying to get a five axis spoiler for almost two months now with out any luck. I ordered it through my local dealer and they're getting pretty nasty with me because of having to re-order due to defects.
Spoiler #1: Came scratched, about 2 inches long through the clear. Spoiler #2: Bubble in the paint on one of the corners/edges Am i the only one having these issues when ordering one. Anyone else having these issues, it'd be great to know about as they're giving me a hard time about getting a new one at this point, and aren't sure if they're going to refund my money. help? |
i ordered through ft86 speed factory. order and customer service was great from them, but it took like 2 months to receive from 5ad, due to molding flaws.
once i got it, everything seemed fine since the box it came it was not damaged. however, the spoiler had defects, mainly scrapes and a deep scratch. contacted 5ad directly and they asked for pictures of the box and the defects. after some email exchanging, they asked me to send the spoiler in. they gave another spoiler in return which looks good. a friend of mine commented about how the paint doesnt look to match, but i cant see it. 5ad has been good with customer satisfaction as well, but the initial spoiler sent wasnt perfect. |
Probably better off getting a primed spoiler and having it painted. You can get better quality control, and better color match anyway with a decent shop. The quality of the primered piece was top notch. It was scuff and spray (I am a painter)

^^^ sinigang_guy a long time friend of mine runs FT86speedfactory, glad to hear his service was good. I should have ordered through him. |
I've sold about 20 Five Axix Spoilers Pre-Painted. I get them painted at a local body shop and then ship them out. I personally wrap them in foam and tape them up to avoid shipping damage. But one thing about the spoilers is, they are made an odd urethane/plastic material that is very hard to paint properly, it bubbles, it gets little dimples in it. its very porous. My painter does a pretty nice job but they are never 100% perfect.

I want this spoiler as well but as im getting the 10 series and I doubt the spoiler will be available pre-painted. Im thinking the paint might be a difficult match as well. Anyways I'd prefer to have it painted locally as most shops offer warranty on paint jobs (cracking, fading, bubbling etc) and you wouldnt have to worry about shipping the damn thing

damn, i just ordered one from @FT-86 SpeedFactory a week ago. hopefully mine comes out fine.

Some bubbles have appear on my spoiler too after almost 2 years now.
I had to removed it this morning and will give it to a paint shop again...GGRRRRRR Also, the 3M Primer 94 adhesion promoter is absolutely necessary to have it mounted properly. The edge corner of the spoiler will always tend to pop up in the air without promoter. This is a real mess to deal with. |
