stumbled onto this and i have to say, this seems more like a driver issue than a manufacturer. Shouldn't be drinking coffee while driving or anything else as a matter of fact lol idk, opinions guys! :) wonder if this parent is on here:respekt:

The guy wants it recalled because it lacks steering wheel controls? You can add all the safety features and convenience options you want, unfortunately you cant fix stupid. While I do find it strange this car does not have steering wheel controls, and let down on the fact that it does not have them, it sounds like this guy finding his favorite channel takes priority over watching the road.

i felt the same lol seemed more like he/she wasn't being a very good driver, or safe for that matter. but i do agree with one thing, they should have steering wheel controls, that would be nice to have lol

I develop touch user interfaces for a living, and the BRZ Limited's touchscreen head-unit is a total piece of shit, here's why:

1. Their physical hardware buttons (aside from than the volume knob) are dedicated to functions that aren't used enough to justify a hardware button. Physical buttons can be operated without looking, and thus they should be allocated to common interactions like channel presets, or at least up/down to cycle through those presets.
2. The screen digitizer calibration sucks, it's easy to "miss" onscreen buttons. The lag between touch and response is too damn high.
3. Radio station presets and the tuning buttons are located towards the center of the screen instead of the physical edge, which aggravates gorilla arm, and forces you to take your eyes off the road to see a simple station change. Locating these soft buttons near the edge (especially near physical cues along the edge) would eliminate some of the need for the aforementioned hard buttons.

Given all that I actually agree with the dude. They made the UI so shitty that secondary physical buttons (on the wheel or wherever) would really improve safety.

I agree that it is shitty, and he's not the first guy I heard from, possibly an improvement in 2014 but asking for a recall or money back just because of a head unit is ridiculous. There are PLENTY worse head units, I'm just glad the BRZ has it standard unlike the FRS, better than nothing imo lol

I'll jump in with the minority and agree with you. I don't necessarily think that there needs to be steering wheel buttons in the car, but the touch interface for the radio is terrible. The physical buttons should have been for radio presets. I also agree that placing the buttons that are most used in the middle of the screen rather than close to the edge so you have a tactile point of reference was very poorly designed.

For those of us using the car as a DD, we're obviously going to be changing the radio while driving. It would be nice not to have to balance visually searching for the channel presets with keeping our eyes on the road.

Ugh - I really don't like touchscreens in cars - I'd much rather have a few physical buttons than a touch screen (nothing crazy like the dash of a mazda 3) but honestly... using a little common sense goes a long way... Notice a lot of cars around you? Maybe right now isn't the right time to change radio stations while drinking coffee

This navi/head unit really is awful. The slow response and loading time makes it a huge pain in the ass to use.
Have you guys ever zoomed in or out on the map? It sits there and thinks about it for a good 5 seconds every time you zoom in one increment. My garmin from 6 years ago is faster.

The one saving grace is that I don't really have to touch it often because it auto connects with my phone for music. Thank baby jesus.
