Portland Raceway Track Day for PDX86ers in August 9th for beginners and up

I'd like to get a group of us together to do a track day at Portland International Raceway. It's cheap, a lot of fun, and very safe. If you have never done it before you'll need to do the 'Ground School' which is a classroom session the night before the track day in which you'd join everyone that's already been through the school training. Below is the info on both the beginner ground school and the HPDE (High Performace Drivers Education) track day. If you sign up please post it so I can add you to the list of us that are going. Helmet rentals available--$10

Yes it's on a Friday so request that day off from work. That's why I posted this two months in advance for us to have time to do just that. Also beginners doing the driving class Thursday night make sure you don't work that night either.

For those of you that think you can't race your car because you didn't buy any cool parts... that's a load of crap. Our cars off the dealer showroom are track ready cars so don't worry about it. I've seen old beater cars out there slower than snot. The point is to have a good time. All you really 'need' is to make sure you're car is in good working order with a full gas tank, which shouldn't be too hard considering our cars aren't even a year old yet!

A little synopsis on doing the track day is that depending on how many people register we will get around 4 sessions of around 30 minutes or track time so a person can race their car on the track for 2 hours total for around $200.

Also... beginners that do the Ground School will have an instructor assigned to sit with you in your passenger seat at the track day to coach you when you drive around the track so that's another reason you'll be fine and have tons of fun!

If you have any questions please post them and they will be answered.

I've been looking for something like this! Give me a few days, I will be signing up.

Sign up now since you'll have your car way before the track day. :)

PoWn3d_0704 06-05-2013 03:50 AM

In theory. I am still figuring things out. As it turns out, my 6/20 estimate was a little optimistic. :(

But there is still hope! Mostly.

myd_lyf_crysys 06-08-2013 12:35 PM

I'm in... All signed up and ready to go!

I will eventually get around to signing up for this event. Have to see how my summer plans take shape over the next couple of weeks.

Lets get more people to sign up. Remind your car that it's a performance sports car by taking it on the track! It's tired of going 25mph in residential zones. Take it to the track so it can hit triple digits! BRZ & FR-S UNITE!

Since we have a few people getting the innovate superchargers, they need to come! Turbo and centrifugal people need to come to. The more force induction there, the more likely us natural people will want to upgrade.

rice_classic 06-28-2013 12:58 PM

Cascade Sports Car Club has several championship drivers instructing for them. For $210 for a 2 day course with in-car instruction, this is practically free and you should be taking advantage of it! Usually something of this value is over $500 with many other organizations.

JonnyRocket 06-28-2013 05:14 PM

I'll be signing up as well.

Added you to the list of people going. Make sure you sign up through the website I posted.

stockysnail 06-29-2013 03:06 AM

A side note. If you register they don't charge your credit card until the day of the event.

FRSfan111 06-29-2013 04:59 AM

So I have to pay for grounding school, 210$
Then another 180$ to go to the track the next day?

PoWn3d_0704 06-29-2013 05:03 AM

Okay. I'll register next week.... I'm excited!

No. If you choose to do the school, both days are $210 as both the school and the track day are apart of the $210. Or without the school it's $180.
:happy0180:

See track days don't cost very much at all.

Did you figure out your schedule since it's been a month since you posted this? Can I add you to the ever growing list of owners coming to the track day?

I'm just making a list. Make sure you register on the site everyone. You won't be charged until the day of the event when you register.

stockysnail 07-08-2013 01:04 AM

Bump cause it's only a month away!

JonnyRocket 07-08-2013 08:40 PM

Scheiße... I have a wedding to attend that weekend. I just became a *maybe*

stockysnail 07-11-2013 12:09 AM

I'm contemplating getting new pads and high temp fluid for this. Don't need a BBK if there's no forced induction on the car. Don't really need rotors either. Pads and fluid help a decent amount though but not required by any means.

D-Smith 07-14-2013 11:25 PM

Hmm this would be quite a bit of fun but the always difficult task of finding the time off. How many people are gonna be doing the ground school the night before?

wrohdejr 07-15-2013 01:20 AM

I wont be able to make this i will be in Boise Idaho at Import Revolutions.

blu_ 07-15-2013 01:40 AM

Getting this going is awesome... Right now I am a no go, but probably next time. Thanks for putting everything together though. Getting people on the track is the best thing you can do in the car community.

BRZPDX 07-15-2013 02:43 AM

Jason mentioned something about if we done enough auto cross, we can waive the Thursday night seminar.

You'll have to ask Cascade Sports Car Club if that's possible. I think people should go regardless even if 90% of it is stuff you already know because that 10% may be very helpful.

Thanks. I was hoping that there would be a nice little turnout for our cars, thus me creating it. :)

There are some new to track days and HPDE so I'm sure there will be at least a couple.

digital_assassin 07-16-2013 10:40 PM

I just might do this.

FRSfan111 07-17-2013 04:18 AM

I requested the time off. Gah, wish I could get some more parts on in time though. Oil cooler yet to be ordered and springs just chillen I my garage :/

D-Smith 07-17-2013 11:04 PM

Might be a stupid question but if you have two people in a car and share driving time do you have to pay double or would $210 cover both of us?

If I remember correctly you pay per car but you should email them to ask. You both will need to take the training class the night before if you've never done a track day before so maybe if it is pay by car they will let you both sit in the class.

NickFRS 07-18-2013 03:09 AM

200 bucks for a track day! Damn i'll pass.
