Should I delete my rear spoiler?

I'm not loving the US TRD spoiler my car came with and am not too sure about the duck tail style ones like the JDM TRD one either... could I just ask a body shop to fill the holes and repaint? Would they use bondo or something like that? Would it hold up ok?

i would first try making a post in your regional forums asking if anybody local wants to trade trunks. from what i've read it's a pretty easy swap and it'll def save you some money. you could probably even charge a bit for giving them the spoiler.

You can Buy the Body-Filler at any Local Auto-shop.

The Spoiler is there for Down Force, and look, of course if it is not your liking, remove it.

What would hold up well ? Body filler ? I have never seen any one have problem with Body Filler in little Screw Holes Yet.

US TRD spoiler? You mean the OEM Scion one?

taimysho0 06-03-2013 07:37 PM

hi, i will buy your spoiler, please pm me price and show pics

if you are a stickler like myself i wouldnt trade trunks just to have an all vin matching car. i dont like the idea or piecing my car together, while it will be impossible to tell the difference, the vin plate on the truck will not match and be in the back of my mind. i would pay a body shop to fill the holes. a good shop can do it and make it look like there were never holes there...but they might have to blend with the whole deck lid. it might cost a little more than you think...

You mean the 5Axis spoiler?

Why do people say "delete" now? Like it's as easy as pushing a button. What ever happened to the good old verbs like "remove" or "get rid of" or my favorite "tear that fucker off"?

Bondo/body filler will hold up just fine. But, keep in mind they're going to have to paint the entire trunk so the paint blends correctly. It's going to cost quite a bit of money just to fill in the holes.

OP needs to clarify.
I meant OEM Scion. If I meant 5Axis I would have said that.

But I hope it wasn't the dealer who told him it was a US TRD spoiler!

But then wouldn't it bother you knowing that there's bondo smeared over the back of the car and then resprayed? If you really wanted to keep it all original on par with vintage show cars, you would be better off with replacing the trunk.

Though it's not like it'll matter anyway in 20 years when these cars are selling for $3000.

Yeah you mean the Scion spoiler? I don't think theres a US TRD one.. I'm sure you cant trade trunks with someone that wants it perhaps or cover it up with a better looking spoiler. You could do what your option was, but first would be more ideal and cheaper lol

i would like to think they will hold their value better than 3000 after 20 years. i mean the supra and rx7 are still 15-20k depending on condition. and although the 86 is out of the supra and rx7s league in terms of performance, the amount of demand and anticipation for this car will help this car maintain its value. its not like this is a ford probe or a civic dime a dozen car. i think for the purists, it will matter. but then again different strokes....and in 20 years we will probably see clown car frs with a different color for every body panel one day but yeah idk. i may be cray cray (as the kids today say)
