Moving to the DMV(Ft. Meade) Looking for some help!
 

Just trying to see if any of my fellow 86ers in the DMV area could help me out where to live? Any reccomendations on nice areas to live? Im US Air Force, so something closer to my duty station would be nice. Thanks in advance for any replys!

Avoid Woodbridge and Manassas.

I live 5 miles from Fort Meade in Odenton, there are a ton of new apartments and condos because of the Ft Mead BRAC and they're all within 10 min of the base. Just look in the Odenton and Piney Orchard areas

Avoid anywhere in virginia in general unless you like sitting in traffic a lot.

I've been told Laurel, Bethseda, Colombia, and Glen Burnie are places i should look. Was told Odenton wasn't that great of an area(idk). Any idea on the places I've listed??

Laurel is a terrible area, IMO. Besthesda is nice but a 40 min drive, Columbia is nice, but expensive and a 25 min drive. Glen burnie is average, some say its trashy, but I don't think so, thats 15 min from base. Do yourself a favor and drive around Odenton, its not a bad area, I sleep with my windows open and I've left my cars unlocked numerous times with zero issue.

Odenton is very nice (same I am about 5 miles from Ft meade as well). Laurel (PG Side is very bad and Anne Arundel Side is very bad, near savage mill is very nice as well as the whole Emmerson Community

Columbia ia great and not costly if you know what areas to look in, whats your budget ? I helped a member on here look into a few areas last year let me know.

My BAH is 1380. Pretty much 1300-1450 is what im prob gonna try to stay in. I've heard tons of great things about Laurel, from multiple friends who live in the DC/MD area. My biggest concern is a nice place where me and my fiance wont run into much crime. Im open to all suggestions. I'm leaving my current duty station on 30 June. Thanks for all the info btw. And i'll ask aroud again about Odenton. I said about odenton with like 50% certainty.

I live in Ellicott City. It's probably 20-30 minutes away depending where exactly. It's a pretty good area, but it's really expensive.

Bethesda? Who the fuck told you that...expensive as a motherfuck and far enough away that the commute would make you want to kill babies by the end of the day. Avoid Montgomery County is my advice.

+1 to Odenton and Columbia. Also check out Crofton, I've been there a couple of times to meet up with a friend and left my car there. Nothing ever happened to it. It's also fairly close to Annapolis (great place for food).

Been in your boat. Odenton and Columbia.

Keep a watch for places that obviously have upped the rent for everyone just because they're close to base.
