Perrin cat back exhausts

Hi guys,
I'm almost certain on getting a Perrin exhaust system.. BUT.. undecided if I should go WITH or WITHOUT the resonator.

I've poured through the video and audio clips; really didn't give much insight.

Was wondering if anyone in Sydney had either one of these fitted to their cars, and if you're kind enough for me to hear it in person.. I'll shout Coffee! :)

Cheers.

(other cat back exhaust brands suggestions welcomed)

I did a quick search around and found the dB figures for the Stock exhaust and the Perrin system.. numbers are numbers and I reckon its still best to hear it in person.

(dB) Stock Resonated Unresonated
Free Rev 88 98 105
3000 rpm 72 79 83
4000 rpm 80 83 89
5000 rpm 82 86 89
Idle 58 65 67
Dyno 98 105.5 108

I would go with a resonator to keep the noise down a touch. A lot of the US systems are way too noisy here and attract way too much unwanted attention.

I have the non-resonated version and love it. Sounds nice inside and outside. It sounds ALOT louder inside the car than it sounds outside of it.

Been on the phone with a couple of Australian distributors and they reckon the ratio of sales between non-resonated and resonated is 1:10

hmm...

Hey !

I also have the UN-resonated CB from CarMods & I reckon it's bloody marvelous ! It completes the car, after about 2,000k's it mellows nicely, got a distinctive Rex like boxer rumble, quiet at freeway speeds & at idle, I love it ! :)

Thanks for the feedback mate.. yea I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on the Un-resonated as well.. from what I've been reading so far, the resonated version almost sounds like the stock exhaust..

Is the sound Inside the car bearable with un-resonated?

ive got the non-resonated, can be a bit noisy / drony on cold startup. Settles down to a comfortable, non offensive volume after about 2mins. No louder at the top end from stock, bit more grumble down low and through the mid rev range

sound of non-resonated perrin catback in cabin

I had the resonated one originally, but I felt it was way to quiet after the initial idle, almost felt stock. I switched to nonresonated recently and it sounds like the resonated one except its got a new growl to it, sounds much better. But if you're going to do header back or even headers in future I suggest resonated, but if you're just doing catback then I would recommend nonres.

I'm not a person to go for obnoxious exhausts, but the nonres is perfect by itself.

Thanks for posting the clip. Its sounds amazing! I'm feeling a bit more comfortable going with the non-resonated now :D

My thoughts exactly Wes! I'm not one to go for really Loud exhausts as well. But since I'm not changing anything more than the catback, I think the non-res version might be the way to go.

is it illegal to have non resonated?
