oil filter shenanigans
I need some answers if anyone has insight on this since I guess the oil section of the forum doesn't get answered very often.
So got my second oil change done at the dealer per my free changes. Come to find out this time the oil filter was different. Last three to my knowledge should be 130 or the 160 superseded one. I have a 15A in there which their parts department is telling me was the one that superseded the 130. SOA told me this morning that it is 130 and should only be the 130 per their service tech's. Something is going on and I want to take SOA's side... I told the dealer that 130 should be the correct filter per SOA. Their techs are under the assumption it is now the 15A. Is anyone else getting the same blue oil filter? |

The new filter has part number end with an "A". I think it's also bigger. I just got my oil changed last weekend and that's what i have. However, mine is black, not blue.

it is a tall filter that is skinnier.
Update: SOA comes through yet again told me they talked to the manager at the service department and said I can come by whenever to swap the filters. I knew something was fishy. |

Anyone know why they switched filters? They have got to have a good reason for this

When i bought a filter from the dealer, he looked the BRZ up on the computer and got my a 130 filter. Black filter made by Tokyo Roki. No mention of another filter. It sounds like maybe your dealer is trying to save money by just buying one filter in bulk.

FYI
I do not get "free" oil changes but this first one was at no charge (dealer courtesy) and was at the first engine oil change (3000 mileage). Current mileage is 5500. The part number used was 15208AA130 (Tokyo Roki, Ltd.) and it is black in color. UPDATE: The filter used for my dealer oil change is same as originallly supplied with vehicle. (I checked a showroom BRZ at my local dealer to confirm) |
Did you get your oil & filter change at a dealer?

on the plus side, it's super easy to swap the filter without losing a drop of oil or even getting dirty ;)

Just talked to the my service rep about this today. Wanted the red STI filter but apparently they can't get that. You need the black filter. Not the blue one. He made a comment about how the black ones are used on the H6 SUVs and the BRZ. Their other 4 cylinders get the blue one.
