3-4 weeks for a white/manual frs sound normal?

i went to my local scion dealer with no real intention of buying one... but couldnt resist. they had a silver one that was wrapped in matte black, cool, but my wife REALLY wanted white. i told the sales guy i'd only settle for white and he came back a few minutes later and said "hey, we happen to have a white manual on its way." it sounded too good to be true, but I gave him a thousand dollar deposit and he said it would be here between 5-10 business days (only 2 weeks?!?!). after a week went by, I called for a quick update, had a little trouble getting a hold of the guy, but when i did he said "i've got some bad news, it will be a little longer than expected... it will be after the first of the month [now talking 3+ weeks, not 1-2]." i said, fine, no prob, just keep me posted. couple days later he calls and says, "good news, we have a date on the car, it will be at the dock on June 3rd and get to us within a week from then." so instead of late May (I ordered around May 15th) it will be here around the 10th of June.

is this a common deal? i'm not mad at all, just wondering if the dealer really had a white FRS coming in, or if he just said that to get my money, then found one after the fact.

also, does 3-4 weeks for a FRS sound like a pretty short wait at this point of time?

i'm excited!

The dealer is probably allocated a white 6MT they can see in the computer but may or may not have an accurate ETA.

It was 17 days from the time my car was dealer allocated in their computer to when they called me to pick it up.

BUT he may have sold you a car that they didn't have coming, but now do.

Sounds reasonable to me.
not sure how the supply in the US looks like, but I have been waiting for a production date for >5 months now.
The Toyota dealers here get updated late and on short notice. Once they know one's heading their way (which they can confirm they ordered), they normally get it within a week or two... beyond that it gets a bit difficult. That's my experience at least in this end of the world.

IMO you got lucky, that is a short wait really. :)

This is not bad at all. The exact same thing happened to me. I went to Sports City Toyota/Scion. If thats where you went i can testify 100%. What he told you is exactly what he said to me. I had to call them 10 times to talk to the salesman his name was Jeff Jones. Eventhough i was feeling the way you did. He came through and i couldnt be happier.

I ended up getting silver. I originally wanted white as well and the dealership I went to only had two autos. There was a different dealership that had a white one but I liked my sales guy and they gave me what I wanted for my trade in. So since silver was my second choice I just went with it. Pretty happy with the decision.

That's not bad, honestly. Considering white is the most popular color it makes it the hardest to get. If you wanted a white BRZ it would be considerably longer!

I was told I could have waited up to 3-4 months for the Hot Lava FR-S when I first went to the dealer. They have to wait on what comes in to port and where those cars are allocated. Another dealership may have a claim on a White MT and they may have to work out a dealer trade. So your wait time is actually really good.

I ended up with a Firestorm since I wasn't prepared to wait for months.

husker741 05-28-2013 10:49 AM

I waited 3 months for my Whiteout 6MT with the options I wanted.

BabyPubes 05-28-2013 11:08 AM

I had to wait 4 months for my White manual FRS. Was not a fun time.

They couldn't find one at another dealer near you and swapped for it? That's what they did with my Raven.

humfrz 05-28-2013 11:31 AM

About 6 weeks ago, I asked the dealer in this area to call me when/if he got a firestorm red, FR-S, MT, in. He called a week later and said he had one on the lot.

Mrs humfrz and I went down to buy it, when the mrs saw a white, MT sitting beside it. We both liked the white much better, so we bought it.

2-3 weeks doesn't seem like a long time to get a specific FR-S onto a lot..... at least not in Washington (of course we have two ports here).

Sounds reasonable to me. I had a similar thing happen, where my dealer located my FRS on a freight train heading to a Scion Distribution Center, and told me it should take about a couple of weeks for them to get it in to them, then to me.

I had no 'bad news' though, it took them exactly 13 days from the day I put my deposit down.

Nsot 05-28-2013 11:46 AM

This exact thing happened to me.. I ordered mine on the May 18th and was told it would be 10-15 days. Then I got a call saying it just arrived at the port in Vancouver and will be here mid June. I'm also getting Whiteout.

Could be worse though..
