Anybody have any information on colour availability for the BRZ?

I've talked to a dealer that said it looks like the first shipment would only be available in 4 different colours. Which 4 I don't know but I can guess it will be at least WRB and SWP. If I had to guess 2 more I'd guess LR and DGM which makes me sad because I don't really want any of those.

Hoping the person I talked to had bad information. Anybody heard from their own dealer or official sources what colours will be available in Canada?

Hey there,

I've been talking to a couple of dealers, and one of them confirmed that the only 4 colours we'll be getting is black, white, silver and WRB.

On a side note, he also stated we'll be getting about 600 BRZs for the first year.

Hope this helps!

That strikes me as a pretty high number, if they do their usual 30% markup on US pricing (see WRX) I'd be very surprised if they move that many, everyone is going to buy an FR-S.

Actually 600 really isn't that much when you think of it. There are about 120 Subaru dealerships in Canada, so figure about 5 BRZs per dealer. Although some will only be getting 1 or 2, others will be getting more than 10, all depending on sales.

I personally think that the BRZs will almost all be pre-sold, and we will have a hard time getting our hands on one.

The only way I can see them pre-selling the lot is if Scion sells out of all its FR-Ss and eager buyers have nowhere else to go for the car. Very few folks are going to willingly fork over an extra 5-7k for what is essentially an identical car that has slightly prettier headlights and a nicer set of knobs for the HVAC.

A lot of people dislike the FR-S because of the brand it's marketed under - Scion. I personnaly think a lot of people will be ready to pay a bit more for a car with a better pedigree, which in this case Subaru definitely has.

But hey, this is all personnal opinion, we'll have to wait and see how things go!

My local dealer said only three colors were available to them for preorder: WRB, SWP and black. And they are only able to order Limited in 6MT for the initial order.

Which was all fine with me because someone dropped out of their Premium preorder and now I'm number one on the list.

Maybe it depends on the dealer? Your dealer may only be getting those 3 colours? FWIW, the dealer I am speaking to will be getting 12 BRZs for the year, which seems like a lot. The bigger dealers probably have more choices.

Doubt most people will see a 6K difference on a 27K car as a "bit more" - that is about a 22% jump. You'd have to be really hung up on branding to think that premium was worth it just to change badges. (A buyer so well-off that 6K made no difference to them would likely be buying a 370Z/TT/BMW Z/Cayman anyways.)
As you say, time will tell.

That could be, this dealer is only getting 3. I've noticed some larger dealers claiming to get high numbers in (and refusing to disclose the exact number they will get)... and then charging $1000 deposits, which leads me to believe they are not confident they are getting that many in or that much of the stock won't arrive until much later, like November. My guess is that those same dealers will also mark it up when it does arrive.

BM- 03-04-2012 02:55 PM

That may be the case, as this dealer is requiring a 1000$ deposit. He did however say he was getting 12. Is this true? No one knows, we'll have to wait a couple of months to know for sure.

For the mark ups, I learned yesterday that it is illegal for dealers in Canada (except Quebec and Alberta) to sell cars above MSRP, which is very good news to me, after seeing what some dealers were doig in the US.

stateless 03-04-2012 03:04 PM

Aren't you in Quebec (according to your profile on the side), in which case they might still be able to mark it up?

That should be the law in every province...

BM- 03-04-2012 03:22 PM

Yeah I'm in Quebec, but I'm 10 minutes away from Ottawa, in Gatineau. I can buy the car in Ottawa no problem, as I am still considered in their market.

I also think it should be the law everywhere, it's kind of greedy and unfair if you ask me.

Troubling news! I am still very much in love with GBS and don't have a clear second favourite.

Kind of bouncing around around between WRB, SSM, DGM, and SWP.

I'd be really surprised if that dealership was really indeed only getting 3 colours, all manual. I am wondering if they didn't themselves prefer those colours/transmission for an easier sell in case some pre-orders fall through.
