DIY: OBDII plug relocation
 

Did the OBDII relocation with 2 specifications mind, first the original plug had to stay there and be usable(for the dealer), the second was to be able to connect my OBDII reader(USB model) without having it in the footwell.

So here it is.
-Cable is from ebay(

-Need a drill and dremel
-2 screw(6-32 x 1.5") with nut, 4 washers(can vary depending on the size/shape of the OBDII connector)

For the 2 first step you can refer to this tread(http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13583)

-First you need to remove the driver lower side console plastic cover(just pull toward outside)
-Nowt his will help you to remove the filler where USB/hole(finally you will be able to put to good use that hole!;))

-Next drill 2 holes(6-32 screw size) in the side of the male connector(sorry for the shaky picture)

Use a dremmel to cut the square hole(size of the ODBII connector) on the back of the plastic part.

Drill 2 holes(using the holes on your OBDII connector as template) on the top of the plastic part, put your OBDII connector inside and drill through 1 of the hole on the bottom of the plastic part, put the screw in and drill the other one(that is to make sure the holes on the top and the bottom is correctly align with the OBDII holes).

Insert the connector, put the 2 screw in with the washers(1 on the top and 1 on the bottom/per screw in my case)

Put the nut(with locktite) and cut the screw flush to the nut(I use a dremel), you can put some self stickin window rubber just in case it vibrate and touch something(for sound)

Reinstall in the car, should end up with something like that.

I was the first time I post with picture, with internet explorer, when I open the thread, the picture must be in the cache because i can see them. I will try to correct it.

Edit: seem to be working now.

Thanks I hadn't thought about it but good to know there are ODBII extension cables out there. If Torque somehow makes it over to iOS, I may try to get my BT ODBII on there again, but relocated. Your install looks okay, but not sure if I would have picked the same location as you.

Can you leave a OBDII bluetooth adapter plugged in 24/7 or does it drain the battery?

I remember asking the same question awhile back. I think the ODBII BT adapter draws very little current so others have said they left it on for months without any issue. If you have no reason to leave it on, I personally would leave it disconnected until needed.
