Ferodo Brake Pad Compatibility
 

Hi

I looking for some advice on brake pad compatibility. I've had a good experience with Ferodo DS2500 as a mutli-purpose street/track pad so would like to stick with them. I'm about to upgrade the front brake calliper to an Essex AP racing Sprint kit so figured I should get a set of dedicated front pads to suit. From the info I can find it's ether the DS3000 or the DS1.11 that would suit.

My question is which of these compounds - if at all - will be most compatible when swapping back and forth from the DS2500 which are used on the street? I'm thinking there might be issues such as bedding in I can avoid and easier bedding if I pick two compounds that play together nice.

Ay other suggestions?

I can only speak on the 2500 and AP Racing C300. Both easy to swap and bed in. Just FYI the 2500 and Sprint kit makes some barely noticeable noise when bedded in and more when not bedded in

I just got my AP Sprint BBK installed and am currently using the DS2500's on the street. Will be using a set of Ferrodo DSUNO pads in the front and 1.11 in the rear at the Streets of Willow this Sunday so I'll let you know if I find anything weird with swapping between the two sets.

I was hoping to get away with keeping the same pads in the rear for both street and track. I only do 20min sessions so figured the rears would cope. Interested to hear your feedback once you try it.

Shouldn't have any issues with different Ferodo pads on the same disc. :)

So after trying out the Ferrodo DSUNO/1.11 pads this weekend, there didn't seem to be any issues with bedding or performance after using the DS2500's.

I used the race pads at lower speed braking to try and scrape off the DS2500 compound without heating the pads to the point of compound transfer and after about 30m of light braking in freeway driving, I bedded the pads in fully with about 10 runs going from 60-30mph braking to 80-20mph stops.

The DSUNO/1.11 combo had great bite and hold and 0 fade over the course of the track day. It did feel like the ABS kicks in faster with these pads but overall I was pretty happy. I'll throw the DS2500's back on after my next track event next weekend and see if there are any issues but at this point I doubt there will be any problems as Mike mentioned.

The DS2500, DS1.11, and DSUNO should all play nice together without any issues. I wouldn't bother with the DS3000. They will play nice, but the DS1.11 and DSUNO are newer pads with modern technology. They will offer better wear, more bite, etc.

As for the DS1.11 vs. the DSUNO...the DS1.11 is an endurance pad with moderate mu. The DSUNO has higher mu, but won't last quite as long. It's a tradeoff with those two.

I'd recommend managing your discs properly regardless of what pad materials you're using. Here's a video I made on swapping between pad compounds. :happy0180:

I think I like the bite of the DSUNO better than the XP12...
