Driving from Austin to Houston

Hi Texas folks,

I'm driving to Houston next weekend from Austin for the first time (I've passed through Houston a couple times on a bus, years and years ago.)

I know that 290 or 71 are the main routes there.

My question is what is the most fun drive out that way? Is one particular path better than the other / are there any fun side roads/detours on the way out there. I'm less concerned about the time it takes to get out there, and would like to enjoy the drive as much as possible.

Any feedback is appreciated!

Come in on 71 eastbound, then cut down and back on SH 21W, then cut across on FM 535 eastbound, cut north on Waterson Rd, which connects back to SH 304 North, then do donuts in the Cassena Ranch subdivision (few homes built but nice large culdesac's). Then get back on 304 N to 71 E, and take Alum Creek to Park Road 1C. Turn right on PR1C to avoid park police, and go drive around the "free" portions of PR1C, then follow the park road east back to FM 2104, which takes you north back to 290 and out of Bastrop county...

But you didn't hear this from me...

I normally take 183-71-21-290. Great little trip will be making my first trip in the FR-S from Houston back to Austin. I pick her up on the 15th of June
