Crickets?

What is meant when members describe "crickets"?

Mandy 05-23-2013 03:14 PM

A chirping sound coming from the fuel pump. Generally very faint, only audible with the stereo off and idling, or from outside the car with the hood open.

Just got my crickets exterminated yesterday... :)

There is an entire thread about this in the TSB forum, but I got rid of mine by using Ethanol-free gasoline.

living in CA, is there any gas station using 91 octane that doesnt have ethanol? i used shell and still have crickets in my car

There aren't, at least not conveniently located (might try filling up if you're on your way to Thunder Hill)

Personally had the best luck with ARCO, quieter than Shell and 76 under normal driving conditions. :iono:

For what causes it, check here. These guys are saying that it might not actually be the ethanol. It's a short thread btw.

Not much luck at all with the search function. It provides so many threads that sometimes have 100+ pages. Where do you find your phrase or search subject?

Will the dealerships fix the chirping fuel pump? What has been the predominant outcome from the crickets problem?

Can u ask another silly question? And yes, I did attempt to search for this and got nowhere. What is the "noisemaker" replacement or removal that members have been commenting on?

No, it's the chirping which happens regardless.

There are threads about it in the Issues | Warranty sub-forum. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=72

They have revised the pumps but some claim the chirps are still coming back.

The noise generator is some piping that flows into the cabin to give you more of an intake sound. Some people don't like it so they remove it or mod it with a different pipe from TRD for more or less sound.
