Stock Radio USB issue
Greetings all,
Im pretty certain everyone isnt the happiest of campers with the stock radio. My irritation with this "after thought" radio has just reached a new level. Now the damn thing wont even read my USB drives! :mad0260: I've just about had it with it, sadly I haven't found a head unit that I fancy enough to buy(also a bit cash strapped but that's beside the point). Just wanted to know if anyone else is experiencing any similar problems? Mine now just constantly displays "reading USB disk". Everything else works fine. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong, anyone know what files system it can read? I've tried the lot FAT, NTFS, etc. still no luck. :mad0259: I'm fast coming to realise that the unit maybe faulty other than it being dumb! Just wanted to put the word out and see what comes of it. Gonna definitely give Toyota a call sometime this week or latest next week. |
Take it back - mine hasn't skipped a beat. I'm also a bit cash strapped for a new one at present. Well it's not great it hasn't given me any trouble.

THe only format mine would read was FAT32.
Hope this helps. Their might be a size limitation on it as well. |
I'll sell you mine lol

Im definitely going take it in just in the middle of moving between places (jhb to dbn) so still don't know when or where to book it in. lol!
I thought it was a file system issue but it did something similar on me a while back and i changed all my usb's that I use in the car to FAT. Strangely the problem was on one of the two 8gb disks. So I'm thinking cant be that anymore. Could be the size factor, using a 16gb usb now. Got so frustrated didnt even bother to try a smaller one. Lol! If you got the new App Radio Pioneer released i'll consider it. The new one is looking awesome! Think its AVIC-Z150BH, way too expensive tho $1500!!! oh well! |
my stock radio is now taking up space in a cupboard...
I got myself a parrot asteroid smart and even though it's pricey (R9700 with harness and all cabling etc), the sound is soooo much better, and i don't have to bother with a amplifier or better speakers etc.. so i guess it was worth it. |
riyal, I have got that error once before when I had formated to NTFS.
You may also get the error if you put unsupported file types (e.g. FLAC etc.) on the disk Last possibility is a damaged drive. I've found that if you format it to FAT32 and put ONLY mp3's on the usb, it works perfectly! I'm using an 8Gb drive, so at least up to 8Gb is supported. I've also found that the best way to browse through your list of songs is by arranging them in folders. You can browse by pushing the left knob then turning to search through folders, then pushing to select etc. The only issue I really have with the radio is you cannot display Artist as well as song title together. To get around this, rename file types to be "Artist - Title.mp3" then push "TEXT" button on radio until it displays file names. Hope this helps |
