Test Drive or JOY ride

Had my new wheels and tires installed at tire discounters today. My dash cam turns on when ever you turn the car on.

Looked it over when I got home.

Normal for a test drive like this?

no reason for them to test out new wheels and tires.

file a complain!!!

They had zero business driving your car any further than just out of the bay and into a parking spot.

husker741 05-21-2013 11:38 PM

I'd say it seems pretty normal. It looked like he went back and forth with the wheel, took the speed bump to hear any clunking, and tested braking. I don't hear him redline it or shift hard at all. It seems like he was being responsible in testing out that they mounted everything correctly before giving it to a customer.

Doesn't look that crazy to me.

The one thing all the joy rides have in common is high revs. It sounds like he barely went past 4k. Ditto on what husker and Gen said. Yes, he probably did milk the opportunity, but I don't think it's something I personally would really fuss over.

jstans84 05-21-2013 11:55 PM

I agree that it didn't seem like he did high revs or anything like that. The problem I have with it is the distance he drove. After turning around he should have went right back across the street and back to the shop. He shouldn't have turned left and driven who knows how much longer.

Did your dashcam record anything beyond the end of the youtube clip? Wouldn't driving around the back of the shopping center be suffice to check out the install?

X3 this guys just making sure all is well and that everything sounds normal no high revs no burnouts nothing crazy just trying to make sure you get good service I wouldn't worry a bit man

deucethemoose 05-21-2013 11:59 PM

Yeah, looks like a normal test - short of the high RPM shifts.... but I wouldn't make anything of it. Looks fine in my book.

He just pulled out onto the main road. was alot of traffic then pulled back in the parking lot.

The dash cam breaks up the recordings into about 2min clips. uploaded 1 of them.

Looks okay to me too. Besides, I do the same after putting new wheels/tires on my car, and then torque-wrench them again after.

Not sure if you guys are def but right as he went across the street you can hear him chirp 2nd and once again on the way back across. That kind of test drive was not needed. Ive worked at many tire shops and i agree that a test drive down the street on NEW wheels is a must but just down the street and back then re tourqe the wheels but not chirping the tires just driving the speed limit a block or two and come back.
