Clear coat questions.
 

I'm wondering if anyone has had an issue with their clear coat on the frs.. I've owned the car for about 2 1/2 months. And I have two small spots, probably bird doodoo, that I may have let stay for, I'd say 4 days? Noticed it after washing the car this am, that the spots were still there. My first impression was water circles, but they were two spots near my driver side mirror. I haven't waxed yet seeing that some people on the forum wait 6 months after production date to wax. Mines is a 1/2013.

Maybe I'm to anal about the car but I've owned other vehicles, rarely waxed them, even my track car and never had an issue with clear coat so early after purchase. I would sometimes leave bird doo doo on the car for a few weeks. I know that's irresponsible, but owning the frs, I try to at least give her a wash once a week Attachment 38012

In photo it's the spot right in the center.

Doesn't seem to be a problem now, but I wanted to get some suggestions so that this issue doesn't persist. Are there OTC products that are out there that can cure this? Or being so early in ownership, should I bring this to the dealer and see what they think?

I would clay and then wax your car. And see what it looks like after that. If you anal... try and wax the car once a month or every other month. It's all about layers and layers.

x2 on the clay bar...should pull that up, no problem. Be sure to seal/wax after to protect the clearcoat.

Thanks guys.. Yeah I'll go ahead and do that.. Just so weird because it looks like its at the paint already. The photo doesn't do justice. Richard: what do you use as far as clay and wax?

Mothers and Meguiars both have kits that are easy to find at any auto store, target, walmart, etc. I've used both and they're about the same in quality. Right now, I'm using a detail spray from Adam's polishes and the clay bar from my Meguiars kit.

I would also suggest you keep a microfiber towel and some quick detail spray in the trunk. That way, you can remove any bird poo or other contaminants as quickly as possible. Bird poo can oxidize your paint if you leave it on there too long.

clay bar is not going to touch bird poop etch.

you left the bird bomb for 4 days. Thats a fair amount of time for it to bake in the paint. Not so shocked it left a mark

as far as polishing, try something non abrasive with some cleaners as that may be enough and still pretty safe. I like Poorboys polish with sealant or klasse all in one. Both leave some protection behind but topping it with something more durable is a wise idea

and no reason not to wax your car immediately after purchase. It wasnt painted last week (like a collision repair where you should wait 4-6 weeks). The paint is plenty cured by the time you get it from the dealership.

Do you think its already at the paint or fully went through the clear coat?

unless something is wrong with your paint, which I doubt, its only in the clear coat and therefore likely can be polished out

try some over the counter cleaner wax by hand. might clean up easier than you think. if thats not enough and it etched the clear a bit, find a local detailer to polish it

Have you tried Turtle Wax's Bug & Tar remover? Had this happen several times. bird poo left on car all day. dried and crusted from sitting in the sun. car wash removed the poo, but left residue. Even after rubbing it with cleaning wax spray using microfiber cloth.

I bought the bug & tar remover from Walmart. Followed directions. It was gone in minutes. Afterwards, I used spray wax cleaner/shine and it looks good as new. I've had to do this over 10 times already. One time it was left on for two days in the sun. That TurtleWax bug&tar remover worked for me.

However, I had an opti-coat / perma-plate from Toyota when I purchased the car and I regularly keep it cleaned and waxed. So that helps to repel some of that poo.

I actually put a few coats of TW ice wax for now. And it helped a little.. I actually have to force myself to find the spot.. Im waiting till the weekend till i try out some polishing. Borrowing my buddies orbital and do a very light buff and see if it helps. Wish me luck!
