Did anybody watch this week's Top Gear?

At least they talked about it. But aside that... :sigh:

They spent more time talking about flour and vegetables than they did discussing the car. They essentially said that it's not the best looking car and that it's pricy.

They mentioned it having LSD, being RWD, and having a 2 Liter Boxer engine. And then went back to talking about food.

I'm guessing this bodes ill for actually seeing them review the car on the show this season.

Considering the show is seen by hundreds of millions of people, not the greatest news for the car.

Oh well. Maybe good news for us that less people jumping in last second pushing demand (and price) up for the car.

Ah, somebody embedded the videos in an old thread.

Can find it there if interested.

I'm going to agree with them on the price. It's too much for what it is and what you get. Even for the rumored US prices. Top of the line BRZ should come in just under $25k.

Top of the line BRZ should be 27-28k depending on tranny. Where did you get 25k?

Based on what exactly?

I do think it should have been closer to gbp20k, but that's sort of another story.

I was so disappointed when they didn't even talk about the car. I was really hoping that the simple car that James was going to review was the Subaru BRZ :sigh:

Rabble 02-13-2012 10:10 AM

Well what are they going to say about it? They can't do a bit on it yet because they don't have one and compared to how they talked about the other cars in the news segment I'd say they gave the 86 high praise.

kanundrum 02-13-2012 10:14 AM

They are going to have a segment on the show with it soon.

Is that really a surprise from Top Gear? It's an entertaining show but they stopped talking about cars a long time ago and turned it into a sketch comedy show. Even in the good years it was incredibly biased. I thought it was sad how James May kept trying to steer the conversation back to the car and the other two just couldn't stop talking about themselves and trying to be circus clowns. The car chase bit was mind numbingly stupid.

As for the price of these cars. It is more costly to manufacture a front engine boxer RWD car than a transversely mounted front drive inline four banger. Don't complain about pricing if it comes in where they say it will be. I don't see the car having huge profit margins. Be happy.

:word:

I get excited like a little kid every Sunday to see top gear (around 2am when it finishes downloading. Gotta have 1080!) and I didn't even bother finishing it. Last two episodes were good and felt a bit like classic top gear though

mines13 02-13-2012 01:09 PM

It was a fun episode I thought. I would not worry too much about how little coverage it got in the "whats coming" segment. That always turns in to a circle jerk. The car will garner high praise once they actually drive it.

delongedoug 02-13-2012 01:13 PM

If you tune in to Top Gear for a relevant car review despite having read dozens from automotive journalists already, you're doing it wrong.

SUB-FT86 02-13-2012 01:14 PM

IMO Top Gear UK actually sucks for the most part. In any episode I always find myself liking certain parts more than others. That's why I find it funny you guys put the show on a pedestal.
