What product do you use to wipe the BRZ top dash?

Hey guys, I wanted to know what kind of products you guys use to wipe down the top of the dash board in the BRZ? It has like a rubbery feel to it.

86_ZN6 05-18-2013 04:03 PM

303 aerospace

Do not use Armorall or similar products. They attract dust. The best product is H2O.

Turbowned 05-18-2013 04:41 PM

I use a microfiber dust cloth or Swiffer wipe, and wipe often to avoid dust/dirt buildup. I apply this method to any car, new or otherwise.

I also use 303 aerospace on all my cars. A bit pricey stuff, but I think it's the best.

You can get it from amazon.

I wipe it with my hand when there's a thick enough film of nasty stuff.
let's see how many people's jimmies I rustle with that one...

I just use a bare microfiber cloth to wipe off the dust. No chemicals.

When I first got the car, the whole interior was coated with some shiny stuff. It was all over the door panels, center console, they even put it all over the steering wheel which made it super slippery...and it was also all over the dashboard, which made it impossible to see out the windshield due to glare.

I've tried using P&S "Island Shine" since we have the full line of P&S detailing gear at work...that didn't work very well either. Again, it was just way, way too shiny. I wiped that off and never looked back. I like a matte dashboard :)

BRZfan 05-20-2013 08:50 AM

Just a damp clean cotton cloth.

If extra cleaning properties are needed just a clean cotton cloth dampened with a very light solution of dish detergent (a few drops per 16 ounces of water).

Marcoscrdo 05-20-2013 09:02 AM

I have mothers vinyl cleaner. Would that work out? I was wondering if a micro cloth would help wiping it down..

Heads would've rolled if they did that to my car! A matte dashboard is a glare-free dashboard.

BRZfan 05-20-2013 01:03 PM

Sounds like you are describing a 'vinyl protectant'. I cannot believe that a dealer would apply this on an unsold new car. Did you buy the car from a dealer and as new? If so, who was the dealer?

Well, it was technically used. I got it with ~2400 miles. It was "owned" by one of the dealership managers and then they were using it as the showroom display model at the time I bought it.

I wasn't too surprised about it. A lot of detailers like to make everything in the interior super shiny...although they did go overboard when they slathered the steering wheel with it. It's not a big deal, it didn't hurt the car or anything...I just wiped it off.

FWIW I've been back there a few times and their other showroom cars (new and used) are "au natural" inside. So my car was probably just a weird fluke.

Gunman 05-20-2013 08:53 PM

303 isn't high gloss, which is why I like it for the dash, plus it has an spf in it, ie "sunscreen for your stuff".

autobrz 05-21-2013 09:58 AM

303 is only a protectant. do they make a cleaner too? That would be 2 steps. I've always used meguire's quick interior detailer which can be used on rubber, vinyl, plastic, leather and is a cleaner + protectant.

WolfpackS2k 05-21-2013 10:18 AM

I just used a damp terry cloth to wipe the dash down last night. Worked wonderfully:thumbsup:

Sony 05-21-2013 10:32 AM

I use 303 Aerospace, its great stuff. You can buy it at West Marine as well if you have one near you and don't want to order online.

Umbie 05-21-2013 11:09 AM

I'm with the damp microfiber crowd. I may, however, try this Aerospace product that I have been hearing so much about. Whatever you use, be careful of products that suck the moisture out of the material leading to fading, cracking, etc.

Tim_Asphalt_FRS 05-21-2013 11:15 AM

I just bought the Meguire's protectant and used it for the first time. Way better than armor all or F21. It doesn't seem oily at all. I've never used 303, but I like the Meguire's. It's probably easier to find at auto parts stores also.

Can someone tell me what the benefits are to using this 303 stuff instead of just a damp microfiber cloth?

or if you like a shine with no greasy feel, 303 aerospace protectant

If you miss a spot with QID, its no big deal. If you miss a spot with 303 aero, it will be very noticeable. This is also a way to test how long it lasts for. by monitoring how long that spot you missed is visible.

In my opinion 303 offers a lot more looks and protection than QID. But if you the like matte finish, and dont feel like spending a ton of time with it, get the quik interior detailer from megs. used that on my truck today (crazy amount of pollen inside). But when I have the time I use 303

I use 303, but as a warning: Keep it away from the gauge cluster clear plastic, it will mess up the plastic. I had to polish mine out. If you google it, it's pretty common

Books 05-23-2013 02:53 PM

New to interior cleaning, I happened to come across Chemical Guys VRP. For just dusting I have a microfiber cloth in my door bottle holder.

I've only used it once so far, but it makes the interior look very shiny and slick. It smells pretty good too. It's greasy if you don't wipe it off (you're supposed to but I forgot and was lazy). It's supposed to work for exterior too but it wipes away after rain so it's a no go.

I will have to give 303 a try.

siXXtoes 05-24-2013 08:35 AM

303!

sdsubie 06-02-2013 08:10 AM

I 2nd Einzett Cockpit, it gives a nice matte finish.
