Yokota? I lived there for a while in high school. When are you coming stateside? I would love to see the skyline come with you.

So, greetings from Canada! I will be coming to Japan, in the summer! I will be in Osaka area and Tokyo area so I was just wondering if there are any parts places where I can visit! I know I will be going to UpGarage and AutoBac but are there anything that I just can't miss?

trustyler 02-01-2014 01:49 PM

Hi! I will be going to Japan this May. I will be in Tokyo. Where is a good shop to buy parts? Is it cheaper in Japan compared to buying in the US when it comes to JDM parts? Thanks guys!

GTHachiRoku 02-01-2014 09:41 PM

You can get all the parts from the Toyota shops (Netz or Corolla). But they will likely have to order them and it takes just 1-2 days typically.

Autobacs has very little. There are some used shops with good finds: up garage is one of them.

Hey Japan members I'm headed to Tokyo this week. Are Friday nights at the rest stops still a good place to go see cars?

troek 05-25-2014 12:42 AM

Yeah hit tatsumi pa around midnight, daikoku sunday morning.

tokyo86 06-03-2014 12:38 AM

I live in Tokyo and was wanting to track my 86. Does anyone have any advice on cost/license/where to go? Also keen to meet up with other owners
Thanks.

Request

Hi I have a request from our Japanese members. I am considering buying a front license plate for my BRZ and want to have a Japanese phrase; however, I do not trust google translate. Would someone be willing to translate the word "Adulation" or "Freedom?"

the website www.proiz.com does events around japan for about 20,000 yen a pop, usualy 2 20-30min sessions. you can get a fuji speedway licese for 20,000 yen(short course and gyhmkana) or 40,000 yen(access to everything) then its 2600 yen for 25min on short course, and 6,000(not exact) for 30 min on the main track. sports land yamanashi is also a good place to look, havnt been there my self so i cant comment, but ive heard great prices and a decent track.

Hope to be an owner soon. I'm down in dirty south Japan, Oki.

S7mon 12-17-2014 10:47 PM

Hey guys,

I'm going to Tokyo Auto Salon in January, and I'm also planning to buy some gears (Arai Helmet, gloves, shoes) for 走行会. Is there any good gear shops (for 四輪用) to go in Tokyo? I'll be appreciated if any fellows in Japan can give me some suggestions. Thanks! :)

I hope you like drag racing...

themadscientist 01-13-2015 08:16 PM

We have some windy roads, but no real track. It was mostly illegal stuff, but even that has gone away mostly.

I noticed from looking at maps that the very north eastern part of the island seems to have some good roads to drive. I wish I could bring my FRS with me. I'll probably be looking to pick up and R32 and an Evo or Sti when I get there.

I was actually reading through some of it the other day. Mainly looking at the pictures from the island. I've just been trying to get an idea of what everything looks like there and what there will be to do as far as the car community goes.

Tell me about it :bonk:

Are you buying a BRZ in the land of JDM or stateside? I have been gathering parts for about six months or so (see signature), but I have shipped them all back stateside.

themadscientist 02-25-2015 12:01 AM

It arrived on island a few days ago. Paperwork and shakken is being done this week. I hope to take delivery soon. I hate that I have to bolt a Y plate to it, but I bought it to DD and signing it on base every week and never getting it on Kadena would be a PITA. Regardless, AAFES urine will NOT be going into the fuel tank.

hopefully you have an easier time than me. no one registers new cars here, and they couldnt comprehend that it had no previous owner, took me like 2 weeks. also, bummer for you guys have shitty gas, we get high octane from out in town up here. just checked a purchase receipt last week, 99.6 RON.

themadscientist 02-25-2015 02:03 AM

I already fought through all that and had to buy a three month insurance policy just so base would stamp the stupid worksheet. my normal insurance company wouldn't do the policy without a number plate on the car and base wouldn't budge without PDI on the car and I can't get plates without the paperwork from them, classic catch 22.

I got the shakken policy no worries because I had the paper from Subaru with the shatai bango and the engine codes and all that junk. Subaru is going to finish it up. The only question is if they need a shakoshomei for it. If they do, I can give them one so it's a minor hassle, but my GT-R is Y plated and it doesn't have one and nobody seems to care.

They say it's hioc, but I don't trust them. I've seen too many cars start to run funny after sipping from a base pump. Only my Hijet drinks that crap. Everything else is off-base hioc only.

troek 02-25-2015 03:26 AM

whats the shakenshomei? is that like the saftey/roadworthy inspection? by japanese law its not required, but the base wouldnt give me the paperwork to get the y plate without it. Places out in town wouldnt even do the test even if i paid them. that was another couple weeks to sort out. it was a nightmare.

do you mean shako shomeisho? AKA: Parking permit?

You shouldn't need it for the Y bongo

troek 02-25-2015 04:23 AM

yeah, on base no parking permit, off base you require it. i dont know all the correct japanese names of any of the stuff, sadly. the thing i had issues with is the actualy shaken inspection.(road worth/saftey/illegal mods) which obviously wouldnt be needed for a car strait off the line.

themadscientist 02-25-2015 04:27 AM

Yeah shako shomei, parking permit. I live miles from base. A few years ago it was a hot topic, but nobody seems to care anymore. Back then I was in a village and they had no requirement, but getting that knucklehead airman to understand that was a real struggle. Even the Japanese LTO guy didn't know that until I called his boss over who said "he can park a damned bus in a village!"

the puppet master 02-25-2015 04:49 AM

Back a few years ago when they where trying to enforce the gaijin's to get the parking permit.... if you didn't live within 2k's of a Military installation you had to get the parking permit. (this is for SOFA personnel only)

All JDM'ers have to get the shakoshomei for the most part, the exception if its a Kei or you live in on of the villages that didn't require it.. aka.. in the middle of no where but I think that has even changed lately. :iono:

donnie

themadscientist 03-07-2015 05:35 AM

Yeah, they need that parking certificate. Luckily I got one. I have to wait an extra week, though.

Futaba 06-18-2015 09:48 AM

Seya-ku here, upper edge of Yokohama.

Finished all the paperwork and hoop-jumping for this today, get to drive it away next week.
