Stock tire pressures
Hey guys just wondering if any of you have autocrossed with the stock bridgestones and what tire pressures worked for you? My first auto cross with this car is this saturday
|
given how shitty they are to start, i've autocrossed them at 39 hot (f&b) and 31 hot(f&b), i found that at 39 the car felt crisper but at 31 it was much easier to modulate the rear, ie, feel whether the back was about to break loose.
so pick your poison |
I know they aren't great I just haven't got around to getting tires. How much tire roll did you get at 31 psi?

the car is RWD, use throttle to rotate and punch it when it straightens. This is why i've opted for rear end control over "crispiness" Furthermore, you have to remember that the stock bridgestonewill overheat much quicker than a dedicated summer performance/race tire, onceit overheats it loses even more grip. So you don’t want to overdrive the tire, esp on a technicalcourse. If you do, you’ll feel the reduced response and grip halfway through, and you’ll definitely feel it when the stop box comes. So don’t just crank it and gun it, be smart about it. |
Yeah I drive smooth anyway cause usually that's faster so I plan on just having fun mostly I haven't driven a rear wheel drive in 2 1/2 years since my last s2000 the evo was a cheater car cause it was usually glued down.

I started with 40 psi and found them to be waaay to loose. I'd run them at about stock pressure. Lower if it helps with traction (you'll get more wear on the shoulders).
|
Yep I ran 40 on stock bridgestones and the car was loose. On the plus side, the tire wasn't rolling over very much, even with the soft sidewalls. I've since upgraded tires, but if I was going to run them again, I would back off the pressure a bit.

Ill try somewhere in the middle stock tires are just temporary anyway. Got to learn the car stock to appreciate any changes in the future

Hopefully I can pick up a master cylinder brace from turn in concepts on friday

We've had a lot of new folks showing up on the stock tires (and having a blast). You might consider starting where most of them end up, with a bit of stagger front to rear. You'll want the fronts high enough to avoid rollover and the rears low enough to be useful when you get on the gas.
So much is surface- and temperature-dependent, but if you try for example 38 to 40 up front and a 34 to 36 in back, you'll be able to keep the tail in check a bit better. |
