MCA vs Shockworks coilovers
 

Hi all,
I have been doing some research into coilover recently as i plan to buy some in the next 3 months. 2 brands have stuck out to me, both australian made, MCA and Shockworks. The biggest difference seems to be that MCA have a strong Racing background where as Shockworks' designers come from OEM chassis development side of the world. So I am after peoples opinions on either of them.

I thought Shockworks were South Korean.

It looks like the shock absorber is made by Neotech which is located in Korea. But Shockworks is located in Australia.

Given I have only read of people on the Australian forums fitting MCA (of the two brands the OP named) opinions of the Shockworks maybe thin on the ground.

True. But i figured it was at least worth asking. I know of a few people here in vic running the shockworks.

Shockworks seem to have a good rep on AE86 and for falcon forums. MCA has a great rep for their gold series custom stuff. They are probably both good options really. Was just hoping for opinions or observations to help sway me in one direction or the other.

I was down at Wakefield one day when Murray and Neal Bates were sorting these out.
The number of combinations that they tried was impressive.
Particularly impressed when talking to Neal was the way he was making sure they weren't rock hard on the road for day to day use,whilst still being good on the Track.
May be wrong but I haven't heard of any other people in this business going as far as these guys do.

Yeah, I have spoken to both Murray and Josh Cootes on two separate occasions. The thing that impressed me about both conversations they were happy to talk about suspension in general and not just their products. I spoke to Murray for about 20 minutes and after ending the chat I was thinking I would go with MCA. Not because they are the best product (there is no such thing) but I like the fact that I/you can talk to the people who make/design the units. The fact that they are in Australia is a bonus.

I have Shockworks fitted to my 86, I think they're fantastic. There is a tonne more feedback compared to regular suspension, however the ride isn't harsh at all. You feel every bump in the road but it isn't jarring. Car always feels planted through bumps and dips. The biggest plus that it feels like a stock ride. To me anyway!

I cant really offer much technical advise, however I am very happy with my shockworks purchase.

Where did you get your shock works from and how much?

I have given my $$$ to MCA.. the red has all of the gold valving and oil without the canister of the gold. No more 30 + clicks.. just dial it in with one or two each way at most.
Don't forget spring rates, camber and roll bars.. shocks alone will not solve all but I would suggest the MCA kit will make an immediate difference for the better..

If one is going to the trouble of fitting aftermarket dampers for performance reasons then I would suggest that camber adjustment is a necessity as well.
Not a necessary necessity but a nice complimentary necessity lol. That plus an infrared pyrometer.
