have u seen how some older cars have a black plastic trim there? well it's the same thing. its just paint protection in high contact areas. if your car has it the same way as mine then you have it in the door handle area too to protect from like rings scratching the paint

Yeup. Just like Porsche 911 has the clearbra like thing on the rear quarter panel.

That makes no sense. It's in a spot that's not really subjected to a lot of road debris and the piece is only about 12 inches long. Wouldn't it go all the way up the leading edge of the door sill if it was for road debris protection?

I agree with lbroskee in that it's there to prevent wear from getting in and out of the car.

Its to protect from when people get in and out of the back seat. That's where their shoes would hit the car since it is so tight. No one ever really gets back there though...so whatever.

^^^ This.

i have the same thing. Also under the dor handles and on the top of the back bumper to protect paint from careless loading and unloading of cargo. Dealer/importer installed.

Now, don't look at your sticker price. Or you'll hate finding "Clear Paint Protection" $199. That's how it goes when you want it now off of the lot.

Unless you were getting in the back seat. Then it is right when you would scuff the corner with your shoe.

You may have worked in paint, but it ain't for rock chips. Stand at the front of the car and look down the side. That protector isn't even in a spot where anything would normally hit it.

I'd assume they were to protect the edge from people's shoes getting in and out of the back. I maybe wrong but that's how I see it. I had similar ones from the factory on my Civic Si sedan they were in a similar location on the sill of the rear doors. After only 36k miles they seemed more like dirt collectors than mark protectors (it was a white car). To the OP, it's your choice whether to remove or not. For what its worth, mine are going to stay put.

yeah ill be taking mine off maybe not sure... nobody gets in the back much  just my nephew

This. You also have those on the edge of your door so you don't leave your paint on another person's car if you happen to hit them in a parking lot, and the top side of the rear bumper to avoid scratching the paint by loading/unloading things in/out your trunk. If you're clever enough, you can make it a habit to close your doors by pushing the door by their edges, and your trunk by pushing on the license plate. That way you can handle all your car's doors without scratching the paint. ;)

i have that too, but what bothers me the most is i seem to have the same sticker along the bottom of the sideskirts of the car....dunno if it would come off nicely though
