Bluetooth Audio

Hi guys.

I have some questions about bluetooth audio with the stock headunit. When I connect my phone to it, the audio will stream fine and the next, pause, etc controls work but it does not display the currently playing song. When I connect my friends phone all the same controls work but it does show the currently playing song. Does anyone know why this is (we are using the same app).

Also, is it possible to navigate the music that is on my phone via bluetooth rather than having to use the phone itself?

I'm sure this is relevant. My phone is a Toro Galaxy Nexus with 4.2.2 (ParanoidAndroid v 3.50)

What?

Are you running a rooted ROM and your friend has a stock ROM? This sounds more like a question for an Android forum, not the BRZ forum.

The reason I am asking here is because I don't know what this head units capabilities are? Is it even possible to browse the music on my phone via bluetooth? And if so, what version of Android are you guys on?

I haven't had any luck getting my rooted+ROM'd Thunderbolt to show anything on the screen over BT. Same thing with my iPod - when connected via BT, there's no info on the headunit, but when connected via USB, everything shows up.

I'm running Android 4.1.2 on my Galaxy S3. The nav screen displays the artist, song, and album playing, but you cannot browse through your music via the head unit (only pause, play, next, back). HOWEVER, I noticed the bluetooth works differently depending on the device connected. When I first got the car, I had an HTC Incredible, and the nav screen did NOT display the song information. It simply had a phone icon and said 'Connected' on the screen. So if you have an older/different Android device, the head unit will likely respond slightly different.

Thats disappointing. My friends phone is a stock Droid Bionic v4.1.2

EDIT: It sounds like the newest version of Android removed some Bluetooth capabilities. Thats too bad. Is anyone with an iPhone able to browse their music via bluetooth?

I have a Galaxy Nexus too, also rooted (Carbon), and I can't see the controls on the screen either, so you're not alone. My friend's iPhone displays on the head unit with all the information. My car doesn't automatically connect with my phone when I get in all the time, but I believe that's more of a ROM issue because I didn't have any problems when the OTA upgrade for 4.2.2 came through.

My only gripe with Bluetooth is that there hasn't been a way to read text messages on the unit.

My text messages show on the screen when they come in and are read out loud to me.

i have a jailbroken iphone 4s and it shows me the song, artist, album but in order to browse my music more than going forward one song or backwards i have to use my phone

I think it also depends on what music player you are using also, when i use Spotify it displays my last song i played from Google play. When i use the stock music player it seems to work okay. It's pretty finicky.

Works fine on stock iPhone 5 for me.

My windows phone show artist song and album, it allows me to search in playlist, not all music and will read texts but will not show them under the text icon on my head unit just reads them through Bluetooth, I know that's the phone reading them because its same voice and let's me respond to texts like I am wearing Bluetooth head set.
