You've got that right. Some of us put our cars on such high pedestals that even when a bird thinks about dropping some excrement, it gets shot at let alone a light fingerprint from someone.
Just like some folks who take 15 minutes cruising the parking lot to get 30 feet closer to the entrance door some of us park 200-400 feet away. At least there is one good thing - getting some exercise. Quote:

At my parking garage, I park next to islands so that only one car is next to me, ideally to my left. And I leave a lot of space to that side. Works for me, no door dings.
Funny thing is, a number of cars have started parking the same way. Some make sense (e.g., BMW 7 series, new Mini Cooper S), but some don't (e.g., old dented Honda Odyssey). I think the guy that drives the Odyssey might be confused heh. |

ANY guy driving an Odyssey is probably confused! |

MAYBE, just maybe, they wanted to protect their cars as well knowing, of course, you would not ding THEIR cars.. BTW, I drive a truck as well as a BRZ..

People suck...I tried 3 different places to park in my work garage before finding a nice WRX to park next to. Neither of us uses our passenger doors at work so we park at opposites and good to go. It's the mall, wal-mart, etc. where I get so ticked. If it's not an actual "dent" you can use some rubbing compound to smooth the clear coat and remove any transfer paint. Also be careful if you park next to low cars because you could dent your own door on their mirror.
LOL at random people parking next to your car. I've been "parked" by junky tCs, old Celicas, faded Miatas...just like it attracts Rustangs wanting to race it seems to attract junk parkers. |

But I am careful not to ding doors, so really many of these people who do this are doing you a favour. |

I just got another door ding... 2nd so far and only 2800 miles. This one happened when my wife and I decided to go to the mall to buy presents for mothers day. I leaned off to the wall as far as I could to have a lot of room on the passenger side and I still get dinged...

The best way is to park on an end and try to hug the curb as much as possible then if the person parks too close you have clear evidence that it was intentional and if there is damage you have a clear cut case of willful destruction of private property.

Taking pictures of their car in relation to yours and having their plate on camera too. Not to mention the paint transfer from the offending vehicle. There is a big paint database that tells you what manufacturer uses what color and so on. I've heard of other intentional damage being caused to nice cars, like in this picture. http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s.../IMG_13462.jpg http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s.../IMG_13452.jpg |
