I never watched the live action film, but I heard the Initial D film was pretty good. The anime was awesome though!

Great car movie not about racing or anything but about the love one has for their car documentary style

"Legend of Speed" I think it's called. It's a chinese movie if im not mistaken but i loved it.

This makes me question your definition of "good".

It's more of a documentary film about the Audi Le Man race team. It is free on iTunes I think and there might be a video on YouTube as well.

Enjoy racing documentaries but have trouble finding them on US television, so youtube and filesharing sites it is!

Mad Max (first one...)
Vanishing Point (original and remake)

Not the best movie, but pretty good. It's Taiwanese movie though, not Japanese.

Grand Prix. Old but good.

Also, but not a racing movie, Ronin. Incredible car chase scenes. Incredible. All filmed at real speed, no fast forward trickery. Good spy/heist movie, too.
