Newbie. How much does it usually cost?

Chuckwalla, buttonwolliw, willow springs. Cost is dependent on the club / group you're joining and how many days you'll run, but it will usually range from $100 to $300.

It looks like you can't go as an individual? You have to find a group of people (club?)

Just to elaborate on what the folks above have been saying...
Speedventures (http://www.speedventures.com/) They run some of the best organized track events in SoCal and the general skill level of the drivers seems a little higher than with other clubs. The price can sometimes be slightly higher but it's worth it. They also run the "86 Challenge" for our cars. The challenge is nicely structured for more competitive car builds (i.e. points assigned per certain mods - and certain tiers of points will place you in different classes). Extreme Speed (http://www.extremespeedtrackevents.com/): These guys also run events pretty well and are very friendly. Their prices are very competitive (especially if you get their coupon packs for 5 or 10 track day packages which can lower the cost to $70-80 per event at Willow Springs or Buttonwillow). They host the "FT86 Cup" with the fine folks at CSG/Robispec/Berk Technologies and the Cup events are grouped in a way where it's easy for a novice to come in and not feel intimidated by a more rigid tournament structure. Super friendly environment all around for our car community. Cost typically depends on the track you're going to. From my experience, cheapest to most expensive in SoCal goes something like: Streets of Willow Buttonwillow Raceway Chuckwalla Valley Raceway Willow Springs International Raceway ("Big Willow") Auto Club Speedway And you can sign up as an individual for either of these clubs. You don't have to gather up a group or anything ;) |
Come out to one of the meets and chat up some folks! There's more than a few who hit the tracks regularly and can tell you more about it. :)

Cool. When is the next "fr-s" track meet in June/July? Will be kinda weird driving with a bunch of other cars for the first time.

there is also National Auto Sport Association http://www.nasaproracing.com
They also run at all of the major tracks in Southern California and their HPDE events are structured with both track and class room instruction. In their HPDE level 1 they provide a free instructor. They have a great ladder program as you work your way through HPDE1-4 you can start running their Time Trials and compete at the national levels. The cost depends on the track, however they are all about the same price. |
