my warning egine light is on

I live in canada (montreal) so i had stored my car for the winter (6 months) in my heated garage
Before i storage the car i went to tank up the car with gas I went to Petro Canada and used 94 octane and i also added about 500ml a small bottle of gas stabilizer
I had disconnected the negative side of the battery for storage
So today after 6 month of storage i reconnected the battery
Started the car
drove it out of the garage and after idling for a about a minute
and on the dash the slip indicator light came on the engine light came on
and has i press on the gas paddle to move the car it wouldn't go i gave gas and i would see the RPM up needle go just up a little and back down
So i turn off the car
Waited a minute and re started the car
this time the Slip Indicator light was not present good but the engine light was still lit
but i was able to drive the car
And the car drove very well i notice no problems while driving
the only thing is the engine light is on
Does anyone know why this engine light is still on
thanks

Need codes

m.wood0213 05-06-2013 01:12 AM

take to dealer should be under warranty unless battery is bad. diag should be free or local auto parts store.

it a manual transmission
The car only has 2900km
If i continue to drive the car with the engine light on is this dangerous for the car
Do i have to bring the car in right away

You can drive, it'll be fine. But either bring it to the daler or get the codes pulled at any auto parts store.

Yesterday i brought the car to the dealer when i started the car the engine light was on
Drove it to the dealer parked the car
The lady told me to bring the car in
So i restarted the car and the engine light was did not appear
The service guy told me well no need to leave the car with us
He told me maybe because the car was in storage for 6 months with the battery disconnected
The car is running fine and the engine light is not there any more

Did they try to scan for any saved codes?

The problem with these damn dealerships is they won't touch anything unless they themselves are able to reproduce the issue on the spot... That's very frustrating for the buyers of first years models.

The ethonal in the 94 has prolly turned to water and may have gummed up your fuel system, always only store with ethonal free gas. Use an injector cleaner and some octane booster. And fill up with fresh gas if you can. That should help.

Hmmm, would this be specific to DI? Just wondering, since I've stored multiple cars with full tank of 93 (up to 10% ethanol) and a can of stabil, and never had an issue.

Hmmm not too sure on that, but I've always been told to store with ethanol free gas which i did this year and not one issue when I brought her out.
