Quit kicking it on your way out.:bonk:

asia_minor 05-06-2013 12:25 AM

what? other than replacing the door card, you'd just have to live with it.

gr8scott 05-06-2013 12:37 AM

work boots

mashal 05-06-2013 12:39 AM

Your drive your frs/brz with work boots?

Clean with 90% alcohol, get a can of invisible glass and cut and cover the area with 3M film. It should work on that plastic.

Same thing happen to me!

suaveflooder 05-06-2013 03:17 AM

lol, I've got the same thing. Oh well. Just enjoy the car. The lip on the door exit is REALLY high. Almost everyone who gets out of my car kicks the side of the door or the lip on the inside. :bonk::bonk:

I am tempted to do this, any pictures?

Here is a shot from a table I tested it on with a plastic coating that was getting scratched. Very similar texture to the door panel.

Just use some wet towel to clean up the mess.

Frostyman 05-06-2013 03:22 PM

I'm gonna buy the JDM door speaker inserts with the padding once my drivers side gets worn out. It's nearly there already at 8k miles.

When you get out of the car pretend you're tip-toeing...meaning you have to be careful about where you put your foot, as if you're trying to be really quiet. Once you get itno the habit of getting out that way you'll be able to do it quicker. Basically you have to retrain yourself. Either that or kick the boots off for flip flops or something for the ride home from work.

Between lifting my foot in the air to clear the side sill and making sure I don't poke my eye out on the little triangular window when getting in is work enough.

They sure didn't make this car easy to ingress/egress without damaging it or yourself.

gr8scott 05-06-2013 10:01 PM

I will just get in through the window!

AaronB 05-07-2013 05:00 PM

I noticed the same thing the other day, I have to always remind my self to watch it when I get in and out.

Still better than my previous car though, a MINI, which had a speaker grille in a very poor spot. Got out too fast one day and kicked right through the speaker grille.

Your legs!?

just use an interior cleaning product for the dash.

ArKiTeCkT 05-11-2013 02:40 AM

I bought a black vinyl wrap and wrapped the area where the shoe mark hits. Ill take a pic tomorrow, it looks ugly but at least theres no scratches

Looks like crap, but I plan to use a blow dryer when it gets warmer.

CircuitJerk 05-12-2013 02:19 PM

Sticker bomb!
Or something less obnoxious. I like the vinyl wrap idea but maybe something a little more creative. :shrugs:

If you wanted to remove it or sell the car, wouldnt it be hard to remove the sticker??

Depends on how it was prepped, the adhesive etc.
Decals in general can be time consuming and a PITA depending on several factors, but it's not a show stopper for me. Just have to take the time, and add heat (carefully) when needed.
And finally, the right chemicals to clean up any residue (if required).

My suggestion exactly, my driver side door gets blocked by drivers who can't park straight, so I go through the window sometimes.

I also keep an extra pair of shorts and old tennis shoes in the back in case i need to change out of some heavy pants and boots. It's rewarding to be prepared so you can get the best driving experience possible.
