Track brake pads - front and rear?
Just got my Argento 86 and plan on bringing it to an hpde next month. I plan on replacing the brake pads with better ones. Will do a brake fluid flush as well. The pads will be used only on track and will be swapped out after each event. It will be my first time doing hpde's.
My question is, should I buy pads for both front and rear? Or can I get away with just replacing the fronts and using stock ones for the rears? Also, any recommendations on what pads to use? I'm thinking something from hawk? |

If yes, I recommend Ferodo DS2500. You can run it on both track and street. |
Yeah, I'll stick with the stock tires for at least a few months. Still have to learn the car and how it behaves.
If I use ferodo for both track and street, is can I get away with just the front pads or just replace them both? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
if your staying w/ stock tires theres tons of options and youll hear something different from everyone. good luck.

As for front and rears, I've been using the DS2500's all around. I've been told by faster folks that you want to use matching compounds on all 4 corners and from my own personal experience, the car feels very good with a full set of DS2500's. |
go check out WORKS brake pads
they are engineered for both the street use and the track ---> http://www.86-zn6.com/WORKS-Blue-Brake-Pads_p_65.html |

Shooting for Wednesday! I'm not too sure how the race compounds for the front are going to be (street able or not) but the HPS's are a solid pad! Wanted a good setup for runs and eventually when I can figure out track days and autocross but still be a streetable setup. I'll be sure to fill you in on my impressions of them. I think from the research I've done and just having buddies who continue to buy these for their cars and swear by them they'll be a good setup.

Track pads typically have a maximum operating temp of 1500-2000* F. As always, you want to prep your car for the most extreme condition it will be subjected to, not what it will normally be subjected to. Martial artists train for years for that 2 minute (or less) bout. Our cars have 200hp, but how much time do you actually spend at redline WOT compared to the time you spend in the car? |
@oofie: check out this thread for feedback on different pads.

I used work blue front and rear pads only with motul 600 last track day in infineon raceway ,it works not bad.through out the whole day, only one or two times felt brake fading, but all at the last round of the session. So I think with slotted front rotors should be good. Or may be additional air duct cooler for summer.

As much as I love DS2500's, I wouldn't recommend them on this car for anything other than street use. Even light track work causes them to overheat in my experience. They'd most likely be a lot better if the brakes were 20-30mm larger with a thicker disc.

A small sample of those pads. Keep in mind that this pad isn't exactly used on a lot of cars and we still keep them in inventory for our track clients. If we don't have it, we can probably get it as well (We only stock 1 street pad option at the moment): https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...78119633_o.jpg |

The stock tires have been helping to not overheat the brakes (not a huge amount of braking traction). That said, I'll still go with something more aggressive after I these pads are done. I'm thinking about the Project Mu HC800 or just going up to the full on PMu CR pad. I wanted the HC800's originally, but they weren't available when I was getting the car ready for my first track day in February. |
I'd probably put the money i'd waste on more pads towards a BBK.

This is with 215 street tires. Expect faster wear with wider/stickier tires. |

The best and most economical solution is to swap pads for street/track. No such thing as best of both worlds... |

It'll pass the girl test :) |
I am very happy with the Carbotech XP8 pads I have on my car. I have stock size Kumho Ecsta XS tires. Two full day events with 1 hour session at the end of the day. No fade, minimal noise and my instructors were impressed with the braking of the car.
Just changed them out after this weekends event at Sebring. They aren't bad on the street and the dust is tolerable. Since I don't put a lot of miles on my car, I considered leaving them on. Since I was swapping back to my street wheels, I decided to put the stock pads back in. Pretty easy job when you just take out the bottom 14mm bolt and swing the calipers up. I do find that the pistons do need to be compressed when I put the stock pads back on. The car only has 5000 miles and the stock pads have little wear. |

A few months? I wouldn't wait that long, just because I don't want to wear away the rotors prematurely. |

I did the Mu 800HC, and on one hand they feel great in the street but the layer from bedding is gone so they squeal. Now granted I got fading after 3-4 laps on the track, I really appreciate being able to drive them home and have a wider operating temperature down to freezing temps.
I don't think I would like the trade offs of switching pads all the time, or losing the initial bite by going to a much more agressive pad. But if you don't care about swapping all the time definitely go with the CRs or Carbotechs. These were provided by MikeCSG |
^Thanks for the input! I'll definitely consider those as track/street use pads. I'm a novice with HPDE's, so I'm pretty sure I wont be able to maximize the Club Racers.
btw, I love your videos  |

I did my first couple of track days on the stock brake pads. They would start to fade after just a few laps. After reading what other folks were trying I went with the CL RC6 pads for my FR-S. I put on only the front pads and then did a two day track event. I was very impressed with their performance and how little dust they generated. They are so good that I was surprised when I put the stock pads back on the car. The only downside I have experienced is a little occasional squealing under light braking on the street.

I've been running hawk hp+ fronts hps rears stop tech lines with ate super blue fluid I've had 2 Laguna seca track days plus regular daily driving in between been satisfied with the braking performance noise/dust will be a bit much for most people.
