I remember reading somewhere that the ft is gonna be sold as a 2011 year car in Japan so maybe sometime late summer/early fall is when production is going to start, as for US idk maybe sometime spring/summer of 2011 as a 2012 car

Matador 02-01-2010 03:57 AM

I wish it were 3rd/4th Q 2010, but I'm not convinced it'd be ready by then.

I don't know but soon wouldn't be soon enough for me.

Midship Runabout 02-01-2010 12:29 PM

i would say probably late 2011

Siriusly.Andrew 02-01-2010 01:23 PM

he asked when it would go into production, not go up for sale

So I picked.... 4th Q I think lol

3rd or 4th -- gee I fail at memory today...

I think they are going to want to have it for sale at the end of the 2nd Q 2011.

Calais 02-06-2010 10:18 AM

i voted none of the above i'll be lucky for it to go on sale 2nd Q 2012 down here

Whenever it becomes spring. People will want to buy this car and drive it in the sun when the weather is nice and the leaves are changing colors etc...

That's when I would sell it. That and no worries about it snowing.

Last I heard (from someone at Toyota that knows his ish) it was further delayed....BUT, then he turned around and said that production could be pushed forward if sales of the new Honda CR-Z take off.

This source isn't just a dealer or anything is he? Did he say why it was delayed? That could suck for us if Toyota's timing decision is based on CR-Z sales taking off. I don't see that possibly happening based on its anemic specs relative to its price.

I don't see how the CR-Z would reflect the performance of the FT at all.

Ya. CR-Z is a hybrid. isnt honda trying to sell to a different market then the FT86?

Oh man, my favorite part right there.

So many memorable drives down back-roads through the foothills around here when the leaves are changing and a few sprinkle the road in my AE86.

PERFECT time to go for a drive, imo.

Not a dealer, someone working at Toyota HQ here in Japan. his explanation was they were very interested in seeing how well the CR-Z was received as the FT-86 release is as similar reincarnation of a classic.

Obviously they're different cars and with the CR-Z being an overweight hybrid, they're not looking comparing the two vehicles spec-wise. I'd probably say they're just looking at how the current market reacts to a re-release of a sporty vehicle.
