Wind noise from door seal - possible fix

Posted this in another thread but thought I should post it here in case anyone else has the same issue.

I had a wind noise coming from the top of my drivers door at 100kph (about 60mph) and above. Not a whistle but just a directional wind noise - ie: not the general noise you get but right in my ear. Very annoying. As it was so directional and close to my ear stereo had to be up VERY loud to drown it out.

I had my wife drive while I sat in the passenger seat and no such noise from that window. Also took the dealers demo for a drive to compare and no such noise. Generic wind noise but nothing from right in your ear. I therefore new it was an issue with my car and not a design thing.

Anyway, dealer had my car trying to fix it for 2 1/2 weeks and then they finally gave up and sent it to the best body shop around here. They had the equipment to do an "ultrasonic test for the seal break". Then adjusted the window alignment until the seal around the window was complete - I'm VERY happy.

So, if you have the same problem find a body shop with an ultrasonic seal tester and get the dealer to send it there. Turns out the body shop also has electronic "ears" to listen for rattles and where they are coming from too.

Worked for me so thought others may want to know.

Ya..this seems to be a common problem. I have it from the passager side. I don't want the dealer to look at it until maybe they come out with new window seals, thinking they will likely make it worse trying to fix it.

I've put black weather stripping behind the seals under the rubber flap that makes contact with the glass and it has help alot. Now the sound seems to be coming from the sealed rear side glass, but only on windy days. Strange.

Good to hear your dealer went the extra mile to fix it. I wonder if most dealers would do that. Kind of doubt it.

Mine wasn't improved with new seals so your window may still need realignment even if they replace the seals.
